Hi, I am a high school senior aiming to go into medical school. Does GWU have a good science program? should I apply there?

Most reputable schools have good basic sciences, which is what you need for medical school. George Washington is one of the many that will prepare you - and there are lots of medical-related volunteer and research opportunities in metro DC, which is another factor in admissions to medical school. The only reason to hesitate would be if you have to go into debt in order to attend GW or any other undergraduate school. Medical school is very expensive, so you want to minimize your debt going in.

Should you apply? Depends on what you are looking for - keep in mind that many students who start out pre-med, end up changing their minds. Would you still be happy there if you weren’t pre-med? What other criteria do you have for selecting colleges to apply to?

“Good science” for pre-med is likely to be found at a larger set of schools than “good science” to major in (depending on which science).
