I have been told that the EWL is used if a currently accepted student drops out - b/c they get into another school of their choice. - It happens but don’t know how often - and there are no stats for it or that I’ve been privy.
@crowningflowers @Hoseokgun - any word? Nothing for us again today … I thought we were to hear something by the 15th or 16th … unnerving!
@betwixt Not yet. I am supposed to recieve an email today, but so far nothing. I’m getting nervous.
Has anyone tried to call in order to receive their decision? On past threads, I saw that some people did that.
I just recieved an email! I got in to NHS!
Congratulations @Hoseokgun !!! Thanks for sharing the great news!
@Hoseokgun , what will you be studying? My daughter plans on applying to that school (is currently a high school junior) for the Human Science major. Congratulations!!
So great, @Hoseokgun ! I can’t image how excited you must feel. You and the others admitted off of the EWL are the culmination of HOPE in this crazy world of college admissions!
@Hoseokgun - A BIG Congrats!! That’s exciting and so happy for you. Were you taken off the waitlist or EWL?
I was taken off of the waitlist. @Gt2017
What causes Georgetown to accept students off the EWL? The waitlist was already used to fill in spots left after official commits on May 1st. I can’t find any info at all on how many they’ve accepted off the EWL in past years, but it’s really annoying that they don’t share any information at all. It makes the wait even worse, considering that this could go on until almost July.
@HSStudent938 I called them and they said they accept people off the EWL when the admitted students accept offers at other schools… so it does take a while
Hey eveyone, check this article out. http://www.thehoya.com/half-of-admitted-students-to-enter-class-of-2021/ it seems to be an update on this past article talking about the EWL http://www.thehoya.com/admission-yield-steady-at-47-6/ , and it says this
"With 1,633 students already enrolled, Deacon projects that around 40 students will be accepted from the waiting list. Currently, about 75 of 100 students offered a spot on a wait list remain. All students will receive a final answer by the end of June.
“We have already made some activity on the waiting list,” Deacon said. “We have admitted 25 people from the waiting list. Last year at this time, it was 80. So therefore, one of the results of having a better yield is having few spaces left for the waiting list.”"
Still hoping for the best
So 40 more will be accepted off the EWL? Or its one big waitlist and 25 people have been accepted and there are only 15 spaces left for 75 students? sorry if this is obvious, its early!
How do you know if you are on the Extended Wait List or simply rejected?
“75 of 100 students offered a spot on a wait list remain.”
Is this a typo? Was this supposed to be 75 to 100 students, implying that is how many are on the EWL? The fact that they only took 25 this year compared to 80 last year means yield was really good. I don’t think that means anything for EWL people. Good yield means lower chance off the regular waitlist, but the EWL depends on movement after people get off of other schools’ waitlists, so there should be no conclusion drawn for the EWL yet.
However, the target was 1600 and they are at 1633 already, which is not looking good.
It should be specified in a letter or email. It is very clear whether or not you have been offered a place on the EWL or have been rejected. @wlsdyd
“However, the target was 1600 and they are at 1633 already, which is not looking good.”
Then why have an extended wait list at all why not just reject people?
Kind of a confusing article. It says they took some people off the waitlist already. Why would they have accepted people off the initial waitlist if they were over-enrolled? If after May 1, they were short from the 1600, wouldn’t they one by one invite people to accept until they reach 1600? Are people on EWL now waiting for 34+ people to accept waitlist offers elsewhere, defer, or back out in favor of a better offer?
