the Georgetown application just opened, and I couldn’t find a thread for applicants to discuss, so here it is!
Class of 2018 let’s goooooooo!!
Has anyone heard good or bad things about the sciences (specifically bio) at Georgetown? I’m really considering a bio major with a polisci minor.
@newkidnewtrix I haven’t heard a ton about the sciences, but I know they just renovated their sciences building, so everything is top notch!
Just submitted the first part of my application… Feels sort of crazy!
So here’s Just some basic information, if anyone could help try and figure out my chances:
Intended Major: International Relations
Applying Early Action
Applying to the School of Foreign Service
GPA: 3.54
Weighted GPA: 4.27
Act composite: 31
AP Scores: AP Govt 5, AP Bio TBD, AP World TBD
Planned courseload for next year: AP Stat, AP Environmental, AP Psych, AP Macro, Philosophy, Sociology, Foundations of Computer Science, Honors English
I’m a dual Israeli-American citizen

No major awards
Have had major leadership positions in a major youth group

@matanadmi , just as a general comment, I think it’s a real benefit for a student who is multi-lingual who is interested in International Relations. Your senior year course load is great. My daughter will also be taking 4 AP’s next year. She will be applying to the College of Nursing and Health Science.
I don’t want to start the application yet but I want to work on the essays. Anyone know where I can find the prompts?
I don’t think they’re released yet @ian1235 . I’ve been checking semi-regularly and haven’t seen them (I want them ASAP too!)
@newkidnewtrix I think if you start going through the application process they’ll come up eventually but I don’t want to do that yet

This site shows what appears to be the essays for this year (as well as for the common app and other universities)
I’m going to be applying to Georgetown class of 2020. Trying to decide if I want to apply EA or RD. I know if you apply EA to Gerogetown you aren’t allowed to apply ED to anywhere so I’m trying to decide… Very interested in the Human Sciences program in the NHS school because I love how unique it is (love that Georgetown is one of the only schools that offers it). Planning on visiting in early August so I guess I’ll see from there!
Wow I can type… I mean class of 2022
@matanadmi Class of 2021 SFS student here planning on studying international politics. Like @Winky1 said, languages are great, especially for SFS. As far as clubs go, are you involved in anything IR related? And do you plan on retaking the ACT? 31 is a bit on the low side.
GUYS I think the prompts are up!! I just checked online for the first year application: https://georgetown.app.box.com/s/r74tzony77vpvwclinz9xxvq6d0gha8x and it has the prompts!!
Thank you so much @sunnyflower! I will pass this along to my daughter.
Hi everyone,
I have a quick question about applying. Does Georgetown take into consideration at all AP scores? If so do we need to send them an official report while applying or only after if we are accepted?
^I also was wondering about that. I got my AP scores today and I didn’t do so hot on one exam so I’m hoping we don’t have to self-report or send an official report…
@admd12000 @BioRocksMySocks Most schools, Georgetown included, don’t care about AP scores nearly as much as they care about ACT/SAT scores. You can self-report them if you think they’ll help but I don’t remember seeing an option to report AP scores on the application.
I haven’t started my application yet because I haven’t decided if I want to apply Early Action or Regular Decision, but does anyone know if there is an additional information section like there is on the common app? My Latin subject test score is lower than I desire but I know I still need to report it. I would retake it but Latin isn’t offered again u til December (which I think would make it too late). Is there a place I could explain why I didn’t try to improve the score?
SAT I (breakdown): Didn’t take
ACT (breakdown): 36 (36 E) (36 R) (35 M) (35 S)

Academic Clubs (leadership in parenthesis): FBLA (pres.), Debate Captain, Environment Club (Pres.), Student Body Pres., Mock trial team captain, Computer Science team, this isn’t school, but there’s not an extracurricular spot, so: I fly planes; I have my pilot’s license…I have other stuff, but don’t feel like listing
Sports (awards in parenthesis): I played field hockey, but not really into sports anymore
Job/Work Experience: I founded a non-profit that I constantly travel for. I handle all operations, I’ve worked in the family farming business since I was a wee kid

Teacher Recommendation: They’ll be great (not saying because of me, but the teachers that are writing mine are known for writing awesome letters. I got As in their classes and I’m kinda close to one of them)
Counselor Rec: It’ll be awesome.
Additional Rec: An alum that my dad does business with will probably write me a rec. It’s pretty awesome because they met under a year ago. I kind of like to see it as a sign. I know it may not really do much, but hey, at least it’s something.
