Anyone in Miami gotten their decision yet?
@Laketahoe79 every instance of a $.68 has led to acceptance.
I was skeptical at first too but mine showed up that way as well. No where is it confirmed but every instance 47 vs. 68 has held up to be true
@legends you sound like an amazing applicant and I’m not taking anything away from you or your accomplishments, but Georgetown did specifically come out last year and say they would make “special accommodations” for African-American students applying because of Washington D.C.’s position during the civil war…
I’m sure you’re more than accomplished and would’ve gotten in to all the schools you wanted regardless, but I know georgetown did release a statement saying that.
But if people are saying ty didn’t deserve it it is only because they are jealous. Don’t let it get to you and you know you got in based off of your own merit and hard work! Congrats!
Informed Delivery says a GT letter with .68 is coming our way!!!
@VAMom23 Thanks for your great detailed explanation last night of how Informed Delivery works – I get it now!
Do all the letters have a window or is that just rejections/acceptances?
Nothing here in Fort Lauderdale yet…but when we were awaiting the letter for EA decisions, it took almost a full week to get here! My daughter was waitlisted during EA. She has been accepted to the University of Florida and she is really excited about attending UF. If she gets into Georgetown, that will change things, of course. If not, she has 100% Bright Futures scholarship and Florida Prepaid tuition = tuition, books, and housing pretty much paid for 4 years at UF.
how heavy is the financial aid?!?!
@mrdilettante: I believe Georgetown’s 2018 numbers are as follows: 23000 applicants, historically offer acceptance to 3300 applicants for around 1600 spots. Thus making their acceptance rate around 14%. This is a bit lower than their 2017 acceptance rate of 15.4%. All competitive schools are trending as such. I am seeing many cases wherein top tier students (1-3%) get into a highly selective school, but wait listed in a lower ranked school (based on US News). This is a tough, subjective, unfair, and to an extent demographic/race based selection. Real world, i.e., Google, Amazon, Ford, Apple, etc., don’t offer employment by merely viewing a resume or an application; They interview. Often multiple times! A NFL team doesn’t select a wide-receiver based on demographics or race. The college admissions process, not so much, due to its volume, and as such selections don’t always make sense and are often not indicative of the applicant’s accomplishments. I believe this process is flawed and diametrically opposed to what we teach our children: Work hard, do well, and you will be recognized! May your DD make the best of where she ends up, and crush it life and chosen career.
Thanks to everyone. My daughter will be attending Saint Louis University, a fine Jesuit school with resources that rival Georgetown in certain ways. She’ll get a great education there and SLU wants her. That matters. I don’t believe she got a raw deal per se. I do believe the process that all elite schools use is deeply flawed and I am certain that a lot of the kids on the outside scratching the glass deserve a better fate, or at least a better explanation than was forthcoming. That’s all. I wish everyone in the Georgetown Class of 2022 well.
@yungsnake99 I totally feel you. I’m the same way, but I don’t wanna o so,where I don’t love because no of the full ride… I got a lot of thinking to do
I was accepted! When are we supposed to hear more information from GAAP and the department we are majoring in, as well as financial aid?
Any idea what time today international emails will go out?
@yungsnake99 Congrats on the presidential at Fordham! If you don’t mind me asking…were you EA or RD at Fordham? My D was accepted RD and we were wondering if presidential had been announced for RD yet.
Sorry to distract from the Georgetown discussion! We were there for GAAP weekend and it’s a truly amazing place.
@mrdilettante the whole college application process is just crazy! I definitely understand where you’re coming from. We have spent a good amount of time over the last year joking about the SAT. My D took the SAT in the spring of junior year and got a pretty good score without any prep. It was an admirable score, but realistically just below ivy-acceptable. She almost didn’t retake it. But, in the end, she decided to have one more go at it. This time she studied. And, she hit the mid 1500’s mark.
Anyway, our joke was that the top tier schools probably would have rejected her if she had applied with only the first test score. The second test score probably put her in contention. But, she’s the same kid! It’s not like she’s a better student three months later just because she got a higher score. The kid who took the test in the spring is the exact same kid as the one who took the test in the summer. Like I said, it’s crazy!
@collegecrazy2017 To clarify, Georgetown released a statement saying they would make give legacy status for descendants of the African American slaves that Georgetown once owned and sold in order to keep the school profitable during the civil war. That is a completely different matter than what you are saying–Georgetown, like many other schools at the time, owned slaves, and the campus community has been having an honest conversation about how to deal with that part of our history. I personally applaud their efforts to do so, and having talked to some of the descendants, it is something that means a lot to them.
@CalBearsMom Congrats to your D! Glad it worked out for you.
@jewboy104 GAAP Weekend for RD is the weekend of April 13th and 20th this year. You should receive more information shortly via email. Georgetown students do not declare a major until the end of sophomore year, so you won’t be hearing from your intended major for a while. Depending on what school you’ve been accepted to, you may hear from the deans, who will have more information about next steps.
Mail just came - still nothing from Georgetown - Westchester NY - so frustrated…
$0.47 letter just came in today’s mail (we are in Fort Lauderdale), and my daughter isn’t home, so I will wait for her to open it. Of course, I realize what the $0.47 means. What a shame…for Georgetown! University of Florida gets my girl and she will shine there, with 100% tuition, books, and housing paid for with merit scholarships and prepaid tuition.
Congrats to all who got in to Georgetown!
This college admissions process is BRUTAL. I just went through it with boy/girl twins…everything times two…SOOOOO thankful it is now over (with this being the last college decision we were waiting on).
All the best to everyone, wherever your paths may take you!
Hey how about let’s not disparage other people’s accomplishments in this thread bc simply bc they’re people of color and you presume they’ve had it easier in the admissions process yeah?
I’m from southern westchester county and have yet to receive my letter. Has anyone nearby received anything? I know that my friends in greenwich and northern westchester county have.
