So I have been offered a place off the waitlist at Georgetown. The costs are essentially the same. There is a 780 difference. I live in Atlanta so obviously there is no travel cost associated with Emory. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience on what the better option is? I am a black female and diversity does matter.
In terms of diversity, I think Emory wins. I am sure G-town has been making efforts there, but Emory is ahead in that and also in terms of economic diversity is quite good for a school of it’s size and caliber.
G-Town prob still has a more international rep, and if international business is your thing it might be the place to be. Otherwise I’d say they are pretty equal but the Atlanta area (and the South in general) is probably a better job market (for internships and beyond) than the DC area and Northeast.
Congrats, that’s amazing.
One thing to look at is food. I’ve not eaten at either but parents on the cc complain they spend thousands extra at Gtown feeding their kids off campus bcuz the food is no good.
Emory gets a B on niche. Gtown a C. Now someone may argue not to choose a college based on food but I can tell you…kids who don’t eat don’t study well and get low blood sugar. It’s important.
So I’d look more into that.
Both are fine schools and gorgeous campuses. Gtown is a bit closer to society…easily walkable or metro able to lots of life!!
No wrong answer here.
Good luck
For IB, Georgetown
The B schools, and the universities overall, are peers I think.
So choose according to cost and fit. If you do that, you’ll choose correctly.
Just wanted to give an update. Headed to Georgetown!

Yes, Emory is more diverse, but it’s largely because it has twice as many Asian American students. The number of international students on each campus is similar. The difference in the number of African American students on each campus is negligible - 8.5% at Emory vs 6% at Georgetown.
One difference in composition of the student body that is significant is that Emory is 60:40 female:male while Georgetown is 56:44. Research suggests that paradoxically women students are treated better on a campus which is closer to 50:50. While both campuses are majority female, Emory is heavily female.
Payscale did an analysis of the earnings of college graduates. Georgetown Business majors ranked 6th and Emory Business majors ranked 7th. You can’t get any closer than that.
In other words, you have two excellent choices. It seems that you might want to focus on other factors in making this decision.
8.5% vs 6% is not a negligible difference. That’s 85 kids out of 1000, vs 60 out of 1000. When you are a minority, those numbers matter.
And then there is the issue of economic diversity. I don’t know the numbers so I’m not saying it’s a huge plus for Emory, I’m just saying it’s important.
The student has already made a decision. Headed to Georgetown. Have a great time at Georgetown @milanjayla ! Thanks for letting us know your decision.
With congrats and best wishes to the OP we will close this thread. Enjoy Georgetown!
