Hi, guys. I’ve been accepted into those 3 different schools. I’m a black female. NYU and Georgetown haven’t given me any aid. I’ve written emails to both schools appealing for more as they are both incredibly expensive. Emory on the other hand gave me 25K in aid.
My dilemma is that my heart does not lie with Emory. I’ve always known that I want to be out of Georgia for college. I’ve only spent 4 years of my life here but I want to leave the South even though my family is here. My parents love Emory because it is close to where they stay, my siblings went there before me, and they’re giving aid.
On top of that, I can’t choose between NYU and Georgetown because although both schools are totally different, I like them both so I would also like to know pros and cons of both schools.
So you could save 100k going to Emory, which many people would choose over NYU or GU if they are cost the same. I don’t think anyone here is going to say to turn that down.
You will meet plenty of non Georgia kids at Emory- my daughter is one of them. She starts there this fall. It’s usually thought of as a Northeast school that happens to be in the South.
Hey, if the money really is unimportant to your family and you guys are loaded, then that’s awesome. Go elsewhere and let someone else get that Emory money.
As far as NYU vs GU- it’s about NYC. If that is a big draw for you, then go for it. If you want D1 sports and a defined campus, then pick GU.
GU and NYU want you. Therefore, you have the leverage at this point. Find out who is the admissions officer from the college for your area. Your HS guidance counselor may know. Contact her/him and tell him/her that you’ve been accepted at 2 other prestigious schools with a big package at Emory, and that you can only come to their school if the numbers work financially. I’m guessing that one of them will come up with the money.
I think you have a better shot at accomplishing this with GU just based on the fact that NYU had 85,000 applicants this year. They must be overwhelmed, but give them both a shot.
I applied to all three business schools. More specifically for Emory and NYU I said my interest was marketing while for GU I chose International Business Foreign Policy. I’m still not sure what I want to study but it’s likely whatever I do will either be in a business school or a foreign affairs school of whatever uni I go to
