***GEORGETOWN CLASS OF 2021 APPLICANT THREAD***

1 question, 1 statement:

  1. Do you know if students have to officially send AP scores from College Board or is self reporting adequate? Common App allows students to self report, not sure how it works with Georgetown.
  2. As it relates to the double major topic. I think there is a bit of a trend in the pre-professional schools in general allowing students to double major in the liberal arts and sciences. FYI, Boston College now allows it's business students (Carroll School of Management) to drop TWO of their required business classes to give them more flexibility to have a second major in their liberal arts college. (But, for the record, if you are in the liberal arts college you cannot pick up business as a second major, you can only do a minor in business). I think this is because they are encouraging their business students to become more well rounded and have a broader knowledge base.

I know Cornell does NOT allow any double majoring across schools. I’m not sure about Georgetown’s policy on this but it’s a good question.

@collegemomjam Georgetown requires that you send scores directly from testing service.

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to read my stats. Please let me know if you think I can get in and/or what I need to do to improve.

I really like Georgetown and I would love to get in early so I have one of my top choices, but I’m nervous I mean it’s so difficult to get in. Best of luck to everyone on this thread!

Finished the application supplement today.

Now for the wait!

@1zogden1 Thanks for the reply. I know Georgetown requires SAT and ACT scores from the testing agencies, but I"m not sure that applies to the AP Scores. Most people I ask that have AP score don’t send official reports, but I wasn’t sure. For instance, my daughter received the AP Scholar with Distinction Award (which Georgetown wanted a hard copy of), but not sure if everyone applying and reporting AP Scores is actually sending them from College Board. So have you sent yours officially? Is that what everyone is doing??

@1zogden1 so sorry I just saw this! for interviews, I’d just say something nice that makes you feel comfortable and confident. Wear something that’s “you” (but obviously on the nice/formal side)

really nervous about the SATIIs bringing me down…

^ You should really retake your Math plus 2 Sciences SAT Subject Tests in December if you want to show yourself in the best light given your pre-Med interest. This will help if you get deferred.

@collegemomjam I sent my AP scores just to be safe (I did NOT do so for my Common App schools, where I could self report).

I just had my alumni interview last week! It went well, and was relatively relaxed. I was contacted a few weeks, maybe even a month actually, after submitting the first part of the application (I’m applying EA). I was sent an email with my interviewer’s name and email, and then I contacted him separately to set up the time and location.

@TheGrayOne would you say the interview is more evaluative or conversational?

What did you guys say for the part where it asks you to indicate any special talents

Just wondering since it seems like EA applicants have just finished their interviews, has anyone applying RD received interview contact info? It would help immensely, because I submitted my first part of my RD application in late August and haven’t heard anything back

EA School of Foreign Service, not sure on the major.

Objective

SAT I (breakdown): new one–first sitting 1470 (770 R/W) (700 M) second 1450 (750 R/W) (690 M) – Wish I didn’t have to send these.

SAT II: 800 Spanish, 780 US History–taking Literature next month
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.9, 4.5 weighted
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): no idea, school doesn’t rank
AP (place score in parenthesis): English Lang. (5) Spanish Lang. (5) US History (5)
IB (place score in parenthesis): none
Senior Year Course Load: all AP–Comp. Gov., Statistics, Environmental Science, English Literature, Psychology
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Merit Commended, that probably doesn’t get me anything though.

Additional Rec: none

Applying for Financial Aid?: yes
State (if domestic applicant): PA
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: white
Gender: F
Income Bracket: <50k, >100k
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): first gen. on mom’s side, exchange? nothing else

I’m worried about my lack of work experience/summer activities and weak-ish extracurriculars besides the exchange, but I don’t know how impressive that will be in the application pool.

My friend applying RD got her interview information already! She even did her interview a day before me and I’m applying EA lol. But I think it really varies by the alumni association in your area and how they match up alums with students… I believe EA interviews are typically given first priority though since they need to send in their write-ups by the EA deadline @cjchasinglife

^
No, interviews do not need to be completed by the deadline.

Well, my interviewer had a deadline on the questionnaire she was going off of and it was by the EA deadline.

“The interview need not be completed prior to the application deadline, but it should be done as soon as possible after the assignment has been received.”

From the GTown website. Not trying to play devil’s advocate, just my interview will be after the deadline.

I also have won more Best Delegate MUN awards then presented in my first stat post. I am planning to apply to SFS with a major in International Politics. Please let me know what you think about my chances.
