***GEORGETOWN CLASS OF 2021 APPLICANT THREAD***

How much of the app did you guys finish so far for those applying EA?

Is anybody doing the resume? There is barely any space in the EC section to explain anything.

@class0f2017
I’ve done most of mine. I’m just tweaking my personal essay.

I’m not going to bother doing my resume. I wouldn’t include very much else besides what I have in the application already, and my boss is submitting a supplemental recommendation so I wouldn’t need to write about that. It’s just another thing that the admissions officers are going to have to spend time looking at, which will detract from every other part of the application. I personally suggest doing it only if you think it would really be worth it, and wouldn’t be redundant.

You’re right, though; the ECs section is pretty small.

Sorry for the constant questions, but I just saw that my Georgetown Application(Part 1) had a typo in the address.The email saying to reply if there was any typo and I did. How do I know if its been resolved? Could this cause any big issues?

@luvquizbowl I just feel like most people will though and my five word blurb about an EC won’t seem as impressive. Did you just put the name of a club in the activity description section? Not much room to “describe.”

@class0f2017
I don’t really know… :confused: I hope it doesn’t cause any problems. I don’t think it would, since you did exactly what they said to do.

I don’t know if most people will. I just put the club name and a brief description. Most of them didn’t need any more than that. I wrote about my most involved club in great detail in the mini-essay about the most important activity, and the rest didn’t really need that much additional description. I think it will be clear to admissions officers what is important to you if you just put what you do and how often you do it; if you think it definitely needs more clarification, then I suppose you could include that in a resume. But it is asking for a resume. I don’t know how it would look to just have a sheet with some clarifications about your clubs actually are. That’s not really a resume.

Hi!! Just wondering, when did you all receive interview contact information for EA? I completed the application in late August (haven’t submitted supplement yet), but haven’t received anything?

I haven’t received anything. I’m hoping it’ll be soon; they said about a week ago that they’d send it all out within a week.

Hey guys, just a few questions:

  1. on the application form (Step 1), there were some sections I didn’t fill in (e.g section on parents’ particulars) since they weren’t required. I’m now wondering if I should have…anyone else left the non-mandatory sections blank as well?
  2. it says that alumni interviews will begin once the application is submitted. I’m wondering whether the application refers to just Step 1 of the process or do they mean the ENTIRE application (i.e after all the essays etc. have been submitted)?
  3. I just realised I made a major mistake in my application (I indicated I would be requesting financial aid when I actually meant to click ‘no’ :frowning: I have already emailed them to correct it, but will that count against me?

Thanks guys! All the best for your applications :slight_smile: Yall seem to have some amazing stats and achievements

Also, is anyone planning on applying for financial aid?

@Harvardbound2017 I’m pretty sure that Georgetown is need-blind so itnshouldnt matter if you clicked yes or no

If I indicated I didn’t want to apply for financial aid on my application form, is it still possible for me to change my mind and apply for financial aid after EA decisions are out and in the event that I am accepted?

@1zogden1 ^

They have started the process of scheduling the interviews last week. You will receive an email with the name/ contact info of the interviewer so that you can schedule your interview.

Anyone know if its possible to add the optional recommendation after submitting the form?

Did anyone receive their interview information? I haven’t yet, and I’m worried that I accidentally checked RD instead of EA on the initial application.

@luvquizbowl I have not either.

Hi…new to the thread. Daughter just decided Georgetown was her number one and is applying EA (to MSB). Had thought she was going ED to Penn but changed her mind. I think she realized that she actually might get in to Penn and then she would have to go, and she likes Georgetown better. So do I.

As for subject tests, I think the official word is “strongly recommended”. I spoke with admissions and they truly are technically “optional” and applications without them are still considered complete. But to someone’s earlier point, all things being equal, if you are being compared to someone with similar stats, not having them might hurt you. More so during RD than EA.

My daughter is currently 1st in her class and is the first person ever in our high school to have a perfect GPA at the end of junior year. Her SAT 1 (old SAT from December) is a 1540 (780 math, 760 reading). Took it twice and both scores will be sent. First time was a little lower but still acceptable.

As of now she has no subject tests. She is taking two this Saturday and scores will automatically go to Georgetown. She will take her third in December so she will have the three if she is deferred. She’s hoping not to be but this is a tough school to get in to!!!

I’m hoping the anticipated Valedictorian (which she most likely will hold on to) really puts her over the edge. She is so driven and hardworking, just like all of your are, I’m sure. And she is sure Georgetown is the school for her.

As for score choice, earlier in this thread it seemed like some people thought that you could send ACT or SAT if you took both…my understanding is that they want the entire testing history of all tests ever taken.

Also, she has submitted the first three parts of her app and has not yet been contacted for an interview, but there is plenty of time.

Good luck to everyone!

As a current freshman in the MSB, it’s been amazing so far! I’d be happy to answer any questions you or your daughter has

@c0llegeb0und I heard from a friend today that her brother was a student at MSB. She told me that people at MSB always wear suits everyday and you will get funny looks if you don’t have a suit on in the library. Is this true?

@c0IIegeb0und thanks so much!!! We may have some questions and will be in touch! Congrats on your acceptance there!
