Georgetown EA Deferred Students Class of 2022: Next Steps.

@Winky1 While that’s an interesting question, the more important statistic, in my opinion, is the 10% acceptance rate for EA applicants deferred to RD.So regardless of the size of the applicant pool, EA deferred applicants have a 1 in 10 chance of being admitted.

I wonder if the acceptance rate is overall 16%, what is the acceptance rate of RD applicants who are not from EA round? Less than 10%? Or greater than 10%? Would be silly to think it would be greater than 10%, because then fewer would apply EA I would think.

@Winky1 and @adlgel , it seems that the applicant pool is increasing for all the top 25 universities, even some in the top 50. Unfortunately, that means that means the acceptance rate is dropping. My best guess would be that the RD applicants might be at a slight advantage, possibly have as much as a 15% chance vs. the 10% chance for EA applicants. Only a guess though. Guess we won’t know til end of March!

Thanks @Nomorelurker (love the screen name). You would think those that put themselves forward early on in EA or ED rounds would get the benefit of the doubt, but there are no guarantees. For example, my D applied ED to a school and was deferred. So she is now applying to a bunch of other top notch schools, adding to the competition. Likewise, those deferred or denied from other top schools are doing the same (and are applying to her ED school!), so I think the competition only gets worse in the RD applicant pools. I am sure there are other ways of thinking of this, but this has been my train of thought.

@Winky1 it does seem to be quite a random process. So many students with stellar stats are deferred or even rejected from many schools applied to. It’s a vicious cycle which then encourages or even pressures students to apply to many more schools, with the anticipation of being rejected from many of them, thus creating higher numbers of applicants that schools must read and sort through and try to predict which ones would actually matriculate if accepted…

So many top schools are taking a holistic approach, which can be frustrating to the students who have higher GPA and test scores, but it would be pretty boring to see all students accepted looking like clones of each other. What is also interesting is the concept of ED 2 where students who did not get in ED 1 at one school are now applying to a second choice ED 2.

Agree that the competition is over the top crazy. Best thing to do is probably make sure one applies to at least two or three safeties, four or five matches, and a few reaches, then hope for the best! (glad you like the screen name… there comes a time when one must join the club and try to contribute and help others too!)

Is it ok to send in an addional rec from a non teacher if I was deffered?

@rendr1, I believe the deadline has passed (January 10th) but you can certainly call the admissions office and ask if there is still a grace period.

Can I submit a LOCI through the application changes form on their website or should I email it to the admissions office directly?

@oranqejvice I sent mine in the mail. I guess I have no way of knowing if they received it, but I felt that since Georgetown feels important information should be sent in the mail (i.e. our deferral letters) that I should do the same.

@oranqejvice and @apdns19, could send both in the mail and via email to be safe, or call Admissions and ask how they want it sent: (202) 687.3600. Good luck!

Well, to make everyone else here feel better, I accidentally said “thank you for you time” instead of “your time” in my letter. I proofread that thing at least 7 times and still sent it with a spelling error. Hopefully they don’t think I’m an illiterate fool, because Gtown is my dream school!

@bartram17, unfortunate minor error, but if that is the reason you don’t get in, then they don’t deserve you!

@apdns19 I also sent my LOCI about a week ago through regular mail. I’m thinking of emailing the admissions office in the next few days to confirm that it was received!

@silverlemon That could be a good idea. I guess I shouldn’t assume that they got it. If I’m going to email though, then maybe I should have just emailed the LOCI! I’m so exhausted from all of this. We really don’t get any guidance at all from our high school counselor, so I feel like I don’t have any good knowledgeable input.

Don’t be so hard on yourself! @bartram17 I am sure they are just looking at what you’ve been up to during senior year; I bet they won’t even notice

@apdns19 Never a bad idea to confirm that they got it! It can be frustrating to not get helpful input from a counselor. Private high school counselors may be more helpful with certain things than some of the large public high schools which have so many more students.

@apdns19 I can relate! I guess I liked the idea of knowing that someone has to physically open my letter to ensure that it will be moved into my file. But I definitely want them to know I’m interested!

@silverlemon What email would you use? Do you know the Admissions Officer for your state, or would you use a generic email?

What do you think is the last day to send a deferral letter to Georgetown

@lebron236, Stanford has a grace period of several weeks after the RD application is in, not sure about GU. Best to call them!
