Georgetown Essay Question?

The prompt is: "As Georgetown is a diverse community, the Admissions Committee would like to know more about you in your own words. Please submit a brief essay, either personal or creative, which you feel best describes you."

I wanted to write about how my father has physically abused me for the past few years, and how I got out of the situation. However, I'm not sure if it speaks to my character traits as much as I would like it too.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I strongly suggest you don’t talk about anything that negative. I know you could have grown and learned a lot about yourself from that situation, but generally…it will leave a bad first-impression in admissions’ minds, and you don’t want to do that.

It doesn’t even answer the prompt. To put it bluntly. I wrote about how I am a person who loves all different things, and there is no one area that best describes me. I ended by saying that my interest and curiousity in many things is a symbol of my love of diversity.
I got in EA. I would try to write an essay that you feel really says that this is you. For me, the essay really felt liberating it put in words how I felt about myself.

I dont see why not my common app essay was very personal even more personal then that one and I have not been rejected into any of the college that I applied to so far but everyone is different. My college counselor said college like to see someone who has faced adversity and has a personality. on Georgetown’s there are like 3 different essays you have to write. so write about something personal too you then on another essay write about something quirky. Also i dont see anything wrong with your essay topic…just connect it to how you grew, how you overcame it, and you turned that negative experience something positive.
