Graduated high school in 2008 in Florida. Did so poorly that it’s not worth mentioning.
Served 6 years in the Marine Corps. First enlistment was as an infantryman (served in Afghanistan). Second enlistment I served in the diplomatic sector with the State Department at U.S. embassies/consulates (Kosovo, Mexico City, and Tunis twice. Specifically working with RSO/DAO/EXEC)
4.0 GPA, Bio Major at a community college, Involved with the school’s honor committee and veterans association. Will be shadowing at a private dental practice within the near feature.
I probably need some more extra curriculars, but I’m also hoping my experiences across the globe, age, knowledge are a helping factor in my process.
College: top 60 public university
Prospective Junior
Majors: Economics & Political Science
GPA: 4.0
ECs: president of 2 clubs, intern at congressman’s office, mentor at local HS, part time job
SAT: 1390/1600
HS: bad-around a 3.0
honestly don’t think ill get in, but figure i’ll apply anyways.
@Robinyoursoul if you don’t get in its a shame. Not speaking on Georgetown’s policies, but somebody like you, who served in the military and has a top GPA should get in.
I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of what you think my chance of admissions is!
Current College: University of Tennessee
College GPA: 3.86 / 4.00 Major GPA: 4.0 / 4.0
Current Major: Business Analytics but most likely applying as an Econ major
ACT: 28 but planning to retake it
HS GPA: 3.2, easily my weakest component however I have slightly empowering story behind my low GPA
College EC: Applied to the Chancellors Honors College should be admitted second semester, AMA Member, Officer in my sorority, interned with both The Volunteer Channel and ESPN-U Campus Connection this semester
HS EC: 4 year DECA Competitor on the regional, state and international level, including several top 5 placements at the state level and one state championship (this included writing and presenting two 30 page business plans for a local sports business), 3 year DECA officer and ran to be a Georgia DECA State Officer, Miss Lambert High School (don’t think they’ll care about that but I was well rounded so thats why I included it here), two year FBLA regional and state competitor, 4 year member of the Varsity swim team
I would be transferring going into my sophomore year.
@swmmr98 the average transfer GPA is a 3.82 and you are right above it(no lil wayne pun intended), I don’t see whether you are rising sophomore or junior, but that makes big difference. If you are rising sophomore your chances are probably really low because of HS gpa, but if your rising junior then you probably have decent chances. I’m no expert though.
My question for the forum: what are the admission chances for SFS vs college?
Major: Business Administration
Current College/University: CCC
GPA: 4.00
College ECs: Internship with school’s accounting dept. Honors Program. Trilingual. Limited ECs unfortunately.
Highschool ECs: Band Chess Club President etcetc (I have more but I think they may be irrelevant?)
I have will completed 64 semesters by this spring in three semesters+summer school. I took 19-20 units every semester so I didnt have time for ECs and wouldnt know what to do actually.
SAT Scores: 1900.
I know I have very poor SAT scores. Would it be too late to retake it?
So I’m considering applying to GU SFS from GWU with a 3.87 after one semester. The problem is that out of the 5 classes I took my first semester, 3 were introductory lectures of 250-300 students, meaning that I hardly had a chance to develop a relationship with any of my professors, much to less have them be “familiar with my work” (TA’s did grading). The other two classes were foreign language classes of 20 or so students. I would be presumably be asking one of those two professors for my rec even though they prefer to have a professor in your main area of study (mine being international relations).
@HopefullyIGetIn Thank you for the kind words. As a veteran, I do not feel that I am obligated to handouts; however, I do hope that being a veteran is a major contributing factor. There was no (insert any high school club/sport/volunteer center) extra curricula’s when I was patrolling the streets in Afghanistan hahaha
How is everyone doing with their application process?
@Robinyoursoul Yea, I mean its not just about handouts. Its about the fact that if you served in the military any challenges you face in college will be a piece of cake.
@HopefullyIGetIn I have found this to be very true. I won’t lie, I was a major under achiever in highschool and even before the military.
After 6 years in, studying for exams and putting effort into good grades is not that difficult (well, sometimes it’s difficult with calculus)
@HopefullyIGetIn likewise. I have submitted all the paper work and am just waiting on the dean’s/professor paperwork as well as an outside source LOR to send to admissions
Honestly, while filling out the transfer application I kept thinking: “wow, there is a lot of stuff that I can not even fill in with information”
I have also applied to GWU and am waiting on basically the same information.
@xXRedXx
I just checked; and for all regular decisions, it says that that information was due by January 10th. I am going to assume that it is not required being that we are transfers…or, I could be completely wrong. Hopefully someone here can shed some insight!
