It might be a little early, and everyone is probably very nervous about their transfer admissions, but can everyone post their background/stats applying to the school? I will be applying to SFS as a sophomore transfer
I’m currently a political science major at Northeastern.
High School GPA: 3.85/4.28 (doesn’t rank but probably top 12% ~ I don’t even know, but it was the hardest thing I’ve experienced)
ACT: 33
Current College GPA: As of right now, it should be about a 3.9+ (I think I’m going to have all As and an A- in one class, but hopefully I can pull off that A!)
US History SAT II: 730 (not that great, but I may send it in. Any thoughts?)
High school ECs: mock trial captain, big mock trial awards, founded non-profit, debate, some really good leadership positions/did important things with these positions, some other stuff
College: Leadership in student government, 20 hr/week internship, may do research next semester
Recs: Should be good. Have high As in the classes of the professors I’m asking for recs from. One of the knows me really well because of my research interests and I participate a lot in the other class
Also applying to Georgetown, looking at the McDonough School of Business (Finance). I’ll be applying for my sophomore year (graduate 2022).
College Stats:
GPA: Not done with finals yet, should be around 3.9
Finance & Economics double major. Applying for Georgetown Finance only.
Credits Completed at time of application: 49 (a lot of those are AP that won’t transfer over- likely will walk into Vanderbilt with ~40 if I am accepted)
Current School: University of St. Thomas (MN)
Courses taken:
Principles of Macroeconomics (4 cr)
Principles of Microeconomics (4 cr)
Philosophy of the Human Person (4 cr)
Honors Christian Theological Tradition (4 cr)

Very little, frankly. Member of my schools Honors College, Distinguished Member of the Investment Club, Economics Club participant, intramural volleyball etc.
High School Stats
ACT: 32
GPA: 3.5 (Mediocre Freshman year, poor Junior year (~3.2) and solid Sophomore and Senior years)
AP Tests:
Junior Year:
-Stats (3)
-Language (4)
Senior Year:
-Biology (4)
-Calculus AB (4)
-Physics 1 (3)
High School EC’s:
Some EC’s. National Honors Society, 4-year competitive cyclist, member of freshman integration group, Business Professionals of America 4-year participant (board member senior year, state participant junior year), 2-year Lacrosse and Ultimate Frisbee player.
There it is- my academic life written out on a chat-forum. How will I fare with the admissions board? I think my overlapping coursework in the areas of Philosophy and Theology will boost me up a little, no?
edit for high school, I meant 3.85 UW, 4.28 W
You all seem very qualified! Could someone give me their thoughts on my chances? I’ve been stressing out for months and am wondering if I should temper my expectations for Georgetown a bit.
I’m currently a public administration major (essential government) and data analysis minor at a mediocre state school. I’ll be a junior upon entrance to Gtown. Born and raised in the DC region.
High School GPA: 3.83 weighted (doesn’t rank)
Current College GPA: ~3.85 - 3.9 (waiting for my last finals to come in!)
ACT: 33
High school ECs: sports team captain, FBLA award
College ECs: Vice President of College Dems chapter (most active in country), Young Dems board member, founded student org to exonerate wrongly convicted individuals, staffed a few Dem campaigns. I’ll also probably be accepted to a program where I will give legal advice to migrants.
Recs: One from my discipline should be fine, the other one is not from my discipline but should be great.
Applying to McDonough School of Business!
Currently in NYU studying economics with a 3.6 GPA and have a 30 ACT score.
Although my GPA is under the average 3.8 accepted listed on their website, does anyone think that the fact the 3.6 is from NYU I’d be on par with everyone else? And hopefully competitive? Since others are applying from lower ranked schools.
I’m really hoping I get in, I think Georgetown is such a cool place!
I do have a few internships under my belt and I’m a part of the Economics Honorary Society at NYU. Have taken a few business courses at NYU Stern and did fairly well in those classes.
Let me know what you think. Thanks!
@falconic No, I don’t think coming from NYU will compensate for a lower GPA. But there have probably been people admitted with your GPA. You should look at past Georgetown transfer threads.
For future transfer applicants, you can see the rest of my stats and info above, but I actually ended with a 4.0 for my first semester of college
Hey guys! If you are retaking the SAT, would it be too late to take one on March 9th since the deadline for the application is the 1st?
@mmaro3 Yes because you wouldn’t get your scores for at least another 2 weeks. You can contact them to make sure, but I think the latest schools accept is around February. Once again, it doesn’t hurt to ask. But first, check their website.
Hey guys! I’m looking to apply to SFS, here are my stats
School: LaGuardia Communtitu College, NYC
Major: Political Science - Spring 2019 Graduate
GPA: 3.85
Major GPA: 3.9
SAT/ACT: I took them in 2014 and got a 1500ish out of 2400 - i did not care about school as much due to my family and unstable living situation.
HS GPA: 78 - 80, at the time NYC did not do do it out of a 4.0 scale - once again low due to my many factors in my person life.
EC: Student Government: Governor of Political Awareness, Phi Theta Kappa Member, President Society, P.S Alumni Mentor for HS students, Interned at the NYC Comptrollers Office and got legislative and policy reasearch published, member of the University Student Senate (coalition of all City of New York Univeristies) and sits on a CUNY board of trustees committee (nominated out of 500k students) creating a transfer guide to be used by future community college students with the department of education, honor classes, volunteer and organizer for volunteer projects, Malave Leadership Academy, Scholarship receiptent, and founded and was president of my own club at school. A ton of big events and projects and got published in the honors journal. Coordinated a huge citizenships drive with over 300 people who got serviced.
I have letters of rec from top professors at my schools who I had high As with. I also going to be working on a campaign for a NYC official this spring.
Hello everyone! I am applying to SFS as a Culture & Politics major. I am currently a sophomore and will be applying as a junior for the fall. here are my stats:
School: Loyola University of New Orleans (honors program)
Major: Political Science and French Double Major
college GPA: 4.0
High school: ~3.8 UW
ACT: 31
EC: founder and President of the Jewish student organization, President of the french club, founder and board member of the Interfaith council, volunteer weekly as a philosophy teacher at a local school, and volunteer to register recently-naturalized citizens at the New Orleans District Court, my college has sent me as a rep to a few conferences, also working on an initiative to teach women how to weight-lift (it may seem silly but i think it’s important haha)
High School (not sure if this will matter) : took 5 APs, varsity soccer captain two years in a row, first-team all district, MVP and leadership awards, wrote for the school newspaper, Alliance for Change club (raised money to help aid the Syrian refugee crisis).
I only submitted one recommendation but I am curious if another would help my chances…
Georgetown is my dream school and a reach for me but I’ve shown a demonstrated interest in the school. I figure why not give it shot and see what happens! I’m excited to see where everyone ends up regardless of whether it’s georgetown or not!
@milkshakeluvr99 Georgetown is a reach for everyone, but I think you have as good of a shot as anyone else. However, I’m not sure if they prefer junior or sophomore transfers. Considering you’ll have 3 semesters under your belt your college GPA will be more heavily weighed. A 31 is good, but would be a below avg score for a high schooler applying. However, I don’t think they’ll consider it that much especially since you’re clearly a good student and, like I said, you’re a 2nd semester sophomore, so…
Have you guys submitted the supplement to the application yet?
I will throw my stats on here even though this is the biggest reach of all time.
Currently second semester of sophomore year at Anne Arundel Community College.
GPA: Will be roughly a 3.9 by the time I transfer.
Major: Economics
College ECs: Social Media Manager for an anti-corruption organization, interned on Governor Hogan’s campaign, and worked roughly 18-23 hours a week. Im also in the honors program.
High School Stats: This is the kicker because I did not take high school seriously at all and my gpa and sat represent that. ( I stayed at community college to kind of start my academic journey over if that makes sense)
GPA: about a 3.6 unweighted I think…not even going to list my SAT
Extracurriculars: 3 sport varsity athlete, worked about 20 hours a week, did a jumpstart program where I took a couple community college classes but im not sure if that’s relevant.
Should have decent letters of recommendations including one from the governor.
Random, but I saw that the 2018 EA set a record low admit rate. Not surprising as that seems to be the trend. My biggest wish is that they don’t over enroll the freshman class (:

My best letter of ref is coming from a professor last semester that basically encouraged me to transfer, and I know it will be a strong letter. The second is from another professor, but won’t be as strong. My essays are very well-written and clearly convey my reasons for transferring. Do I even have a slight chance?
Here are the other schools I am applying to (in no order):
Barnard
NYU
Brown
Yale
Columbia
George Washington University
American University
Penn
@taylor99 I think you have a very good chance of getting in!! you not only have strong test scores and GPA but impressive and substantial extracurriculars. I don’t think you’ll have any problem getting in.
We can have an advisor fill out the dean’s report instead of the dean, right?
