@cavs2020
Maybe someone will be able to chime in on what they think about your chances. If you don’t mind my asking, why are you leaving UVA?
@Robinyoursoul Too many people. I’ve just discovered that both socially and academically I really need a smaller school. Having 16,000+ students just makes everything more difficult… with everything from actually getting the classes I want to trying to join clubs/ other student groups. UVA perpetuates this idea that things are competitive solely for the prestige, when really it’s just that opportunities and resources for students are lacking and they’re too lazy to fix it.
@Robinyoursoul and to add to that, it shows. It shows in the way the students involved in “top” organizations or the most prestigious majors carry themselves. It’s an environment based on pure competition and nothing else. Everyone is constantly trying to tear each other down, and I’m tired of being in such a toxic environment that promotes this attitude.
The portal somehow created a new transfer supplement for me after I submitted it? There’s one marked as complete and one that isn’t, and the one that isn’t is totally filled out with all of my information. Did this happen to anyone else?
@cavs2020 pretty good reasons to want to transfer out of UVA. I’ve yet to encounter those “kinds” of students being in a community college, but experience people who carry themselves as elitist everyday living in the DMV area - I just chuckle in my head and appreciate the fact that I wasn’t fed with a silver spoon.
On a lighter note: interview today!
Interview went great. I had absolutely no reason to be nervous for it either; interviewer was great and easy to talk to. . Asked the questions you would expect, but in a more conversational tone which was nice.
Great that your interview went well @Robinyoursoul. I’m still waiting for a verification after submitting the application on the eve of March… Might contact admissions soon.
@MysteriousDude
Thanks, man. Yeah, the interview went much better than I had expected. It’ll definitely be one of those moments where you think: “should have said that” lol
I would definitely shoot them an e-mail or even call to get a quicker response this Monday
Is it me, or is this years’ admissions thread not that active?
It isn’t just you. I was shocked because last year there were way more people talking.
Either less people applied this year or the people that applied don’t really use college confidential.
@xXRedXx hmm. Maybe a little bit of both? Decisions for transfers come out in June, does anyone know if they have come out any earlier in the past?
@Robinyoursoul I think they come out between May and June. The latest is June 1st.
@xXRedXx perfect. Glad to know that there will be decisions before June 1st. Pretty excited.
Not going to lie. Part me of hoped that enough college students were deterred by Donald Trump to want to go to school in DC. So that less would apply and we would have higher odds. lol
PS: not taking position on trump. But college students lean liberal.
On that note, it most likely applies to international students especially. I read on several websites that the Trump administration will probably deter international applicants from applying; an American degree seems to be somewhat a risky investment and internationals rather go to other English speaking countries. The travel ban doesn’t really help either.
@HopefullyIGetIn lmao. I’ve never thought about it in that sense, but you’re right, that is a definite possibility lol
For a place like Georgetown, we can all appreciate better odds when it comes to being accepted
@Robinyoursoul Or-the heightened partisan rancor creates an increased drive to attend DC school.
Aslo-I wonder if applications to DC schools are affected by political climate. Do more apply around election years? Sombody needs to do a study on this
Alright, I’ve had two dreams over the course of two weeks. Dream one: acceptance letter in the mail. Dream two: denial letter in the mail. I’ve seen that transfers also get their decision by e-mail and I’ve yet to experience that dream.
Read the 2015 transfer thread and some people (who got waitlisted) waited until August to receive decisions…ouch.
lol- my strategy for this semester has been to litter myself with as much extracurricular activities and goals not related to transfering colleges as possible to distract myself from this whole process. Thankfully, I don’t remeber having any dreams yet.
On another note. If I get waitlisted I’m going to mentally consider it a rejection. Nobody has time to wait till august.
@HopefullyIGetIn
Good idea on keeping yourself occupied with EC’s and activities. Maybe i’ll pick up competitive Rubik’s Cubing again…hmmm.
In other news, I got accepted for this summer’s Warrior-Scholar Project that will be held at Georgetown; really excited about getting the opportunity and will probably be awestruck the whole week at Georgetown.
If anyone needs to kill time, here’s a (somewhat lengthy) documentary describing it all.
