Lately I have been hearing rumors that Georgetown does not put much emphasis on legacy and ECs, and are just focused on stats. Is this true? I’m a legacy with fantastic ECs (founder of non profit which raised a lot of money for foreign countries in need, etc.), and my grades are relatively good (top 10%) but by no means stellar. Would Georgetown not pay as much attention to my ECs and legacy status as I would hope it would? (Applying to SFS by the way)
?
Legacy status is debatable–some people think they focus on it more than others, but they definitely don’t focus on only stats. They will look at your application holistically, and if you look at their Common Data Set (https://georgetown.app.box.com/s/sy6d1d9f6riz5t3q2egojnyzw3qj509q) on page 7, they list how they heavily they weigh different aspects of the app. Obviously scores and stats are very important, but they want to know you as a person, not as a collection of scores, which is why the essay and personal qualities are also rated as very important.
