Georgetown NHS?

Hey all! My top choice school is Georgetown School of Nursing and Health Studies. I have no idea what the admissions statistics are for this specific school, but I was wondering if I am standing strong applying early action this September.

I'm a white male attending a prestigious public school.

Top 5% of my class (4.25 GPA)

SAT 1: Verbal: 740
Math: 760
Writing: 750

SAT 2s: Math Level 2: 740
Biology: 760

Junior Schedule:

Physics Honors : A
Precalculus Honors : B+
AP Biology : A
English Honors : A
Spanish Honors : A
Journalism: A

Senior Schedule:

AP Chemistry
AP Calculus BC
AP Spanish Lit
AP English
AP Psychology
Journalism Ind. Study

Extracurriculars:

District Officer of Key Club (in charge of multiple clubs in NJ)
Previous secretary and V.P. or school Key Club (...now moved up to district)
Student Council Secretary (This year)
Student Council Treasurer (Next year)
EMT for local rescue squad
Peer leader
News editor for award-winning weekly school newspaper
Intern to the president of a hospital foundation
Past job as tutor at educational center for two years (was promoted as well)

Attended National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine

I should have very good recommendations. I am hoping that me being an EMT and intern for hospital will help show my health-related interests. Can i do any last minute things to make my medical passion stand out?

Also, if it makes a difference, admission from my school to Georgetwon college of arts and sciences is not good. Hardly anyone gets in, although our admission statistics elsewhere are very good. Will that affect me even though I'm applying to a different school within the university?

Sorry, I forgot to add I also am captain of my county rugby team next year.

Also, I need a third SAT 2 to take. Which is an easy one you recommend taking?

Hey I'm gonna be in NHS this fall and I say your stats look great. I'm not gonna lie, I hate it when people post asking/saying they're gonna apply to NHS because it's the easiest one to get into. This is probably true but since the school recieves only approximately 500 applications a year, they have the time to make sure that those they accept have a genuine interest in healthcare. Needless to say, being an EMT and an intern looks great :)The school is the first to send their acceptance/rejections letters, class registration, etc. stuff out to their students since it's so small-there are about 110 students in the class of 2010. In terms of another SAT II, try Literature.

Hey I will be in NHS this fall your resume looks very good umm as for any last minute things to make my medical passion stand out? basically, no. just make sure your essay shows why you are interested in the health field and what you plan on doing with a georgetown NHS education... also, it might help to tell your teachers who will give you rec letters to highlight your medical/leadership accomplishments. My NHS essay was on my experience at NYLF-georgetown and how it changed my perception of things so just show them that you have an amazing potential which i'm sure you do.... hope to see you next year!

U.S. History SAT II is quite easy

Besides having a very good transcript, test scores and some good EC's, you may also have the advantage of being male. I have no hard statistics for admissions to that particular school within Georgetown, but do have a good friend who is one of the professors in that school. She has indicated that most of her students are female. So that may give you an edge on admissions.

Someone else went to NYLF georgetown also?!?! That was the best experience of my life!

I really hope i get to see you guys next year!

Can you guys share what you think made you stand out for NHS? What kind of activites, health related or not, and what your essays were like or about? I really appreciate your help.

Yup I went Georgetown NYLF too and that also was what my essay was about. The program was alright but one thing stuck out in particular (We met a woman with AIDS, very heartbreaking). I didn't mention that it was at Georgetown though. I'm not sure if this was smart or not but I got in anyway lol.

yeah my georgetown nhs essay was on my first time seeing and sort of dissecting a cadaver from NYLF-georgetown

Does it help your admission chances by meeting with the man in charge of admissions? Or is it strictly for questions only?

And also...did you in your essay mention that your experience with the cadaver took place at NYLF-georgetown?
