Georgetown or Haverford

i seriously have no idea where i want to go. can some people tell me the pros and cons of gtown as compared to a small but well ranked (10) LAC like haverford?

from what i've come to gather, the one main thing that is different about them is the size (obviously). haverford seems to have a huge focus on community; is everyone kind of like on their own in gtown, lost in d.c. and all? haverford has penn and swarthmore, but gtown has d.c. and opportunities, and of course, a huge research university -- and the name. it's not an h-bomb, but it's definitely like a g-missle, and no one's ever heard of haverford.

thanks in advance. hit me with some thoughts.

That’s so funny, my sister had to exact same dilemma. They are completely different. She chose Haverford and has never looked back. Basically, Haverford is small and personalized, you know a lot of your class and professors. Georgetown you have access to internships and research. My sister was pre-med and I’d say Haverford is way better for that and a lot of other liberal arts stuff because of the individulized attention and more support applying to med school. Georgetown is great if you’re a government/IR person and like being in a city. Though Haverford neighborhood is upscale like Georgetown.

I definitely didn’t get the sense that everyone was lost in their own at Gtown. At the GAAP weekend I talked to a lot of kids who seemed to spend a lot of time on campus involved in various organizations. I’m sure lots of people go out into the city and intern or whatever on their own but based on how many tables were set up in Red Square I’d say theres obviously a thriving student community.

Georgetown also has a hospital so that should be really helpful if you’re pre-med.

I grew up near Haverford. That neighborhood is charitably described as boring. Philadelphia is great though, and there is easy access to it via SEPTA.

hehe I like that one…g-force perhaps?

lol, yea that sounds nice. haha.

but thanks for the thoughts. i’m leaning to major in english while filling up my premed requirements, so i guess in that sense – haverford may seem better; though gtown does have the medschool. hmmm. we’ll see. thanks again.

Bryn Mawr Hospital is right near Haverford so all the pre-med people work there.

Prof. you should know better. Georgetown, any day.

People, convince this guy he needs to go to Georgetown.
