Georgetown or Northwestern

Pre-med / Pre-business focus...

To clarify my question, I'm wondering which of these schools is better purely in an academic sense and in terms of earning students admission to top medical and/or business schools.

Thanks.

hello? anyone

"purely in an academic sense and in terms of earning students admission to top medical and/or business schools."

Both schools provide great opportunities for admission into top medical and/or business schools. There won't be a significant difference between Northwestern and Gtown, and it will be more about you than the school. There are obviously major differences between the schools, and you should make you decision based on where you think you'd fit in more and enjoy more, rather that what you think will help you gain admissions to a professional school. That will serve you much better in the long run - I promise you. For other comparisons, there might be a more significant difference in prestige level, but the difference between Northwestern and Georgetown is negligible, except for certain specialty fields (e.g. Northwestern for engineering, Georgetown for international relations).

ok thanks...would you mind telling me some of the differences between the two?

Georgetown is the 3rd most represented school on Wall St.

Our EAP early medical School acceptance program lets you bypass MCAT and earn acceptance to GU Med Sophomore Year!

DC, New Business School Building, >80% acceptance rate to med school, NIH internships, Leading Cancer Center, prestigious, unmatched student satisfaction rate (and thus great student life), what's not to love? Do you really want to be in Evanston? or Washington, DC? Ask yourself.

northwestern has a similar pre-admit med school program called HPME. from the limited time i've spent there, dc seems to be way cooler than evanston

I think northwestern's the better choice, medicine and finance isn't really georgetown's specialty

since when are medicine and finance northwestern's specialty? last time i checked northwestern is known for journalism and the arts...georgetown is just as good if not better in feeding undergrads to top med schools, investment banks and b-schools...check the wall street journal feeder rankings http://wsjclassroom.com/pdfs/wsj_college_092503.pdf

um, as a current nu undergrad looking to transfer to georgetown, i still recognize that nu is known for finance (kellog) and pre-med, if not as much for med school

Isn't kellog the grad school? anyways Georgetown's Finance and Accounting programs are very solid... all the double majors in Finance and Accounting end up doing Investment Banking and/or going on Wall Street

I'd say they are about the same for premed/pre-business which is more a function of general prestige. The strength of a particular department at the undergrad level doesn't matter as much.

That said, Northwestern undergrad is known for econ, not finance. Kellogg is a grad school but it just started offering an undergrad cert program. In the sciences, its chemistry is one of the best.

For pre-med/pre-business Georgetown has a edge. Northwestern doesn't place as well as you may think in medical schools (I've seen the data). For business it's a wash. Georgetown students tend to want to gravitate towards NYC and so they have to compete with the Ivies but if you go to Northwestern the Chicago opportunities are very strong.
