Hi. I am currently living in New Jersey and got in OOS in University of North Carolina at Chapel hill and at Georgetown. I am interested in studying buisiness/economics. Which is better in the area and can best position for jobs and grad school after graduation?
Thanks!
I can’t really speak to UNC’s business school, but I’m not quite sure where @Todd87 came up with the notion that MSB is a “local” business school… I’m in the College but I know plenty of people from around the country and world in MSB. Plus, Gtown economics is pretty tough to beat if that’s the slant you’re taking on business, not to mention the endless opportunities you’ll get being in DC as opposed to NC. I know I’m biased but that’s my pitch
@Todd87’s characterization of MSB being a "local’ business school is completely untrue. It is both a nationally and internationally recognized and highly-regarded program.
Both UNC and Georgetown are good schools and either is an excellent option. It really just depends on what is more important to you and where you feel more comfortable. Georgetown has the advantage of its Washington DC location for jobs and internships (particularly if you are interested in this during the academic year). UNC is a larger state school. Visit each (if you haven’t already done so) and speak to some students and faculty.
Georgetown has a very well known undergraduate business school.
According to CNN Money, Georgetown, Penn, and Yale “have the most undergraduate alumni working in finance and investment banking …”* Bloomberg reports that Georgetown is a top-five feeder school to MBA programs.** Georgetown has also traditionally been a top feeder school to the outstanding MBA Programs at Wharton, Harvard, and Columbia.***
Almost 80 percent of the graduates from the North Carolina undergraduate business program work in 49 states other than New York, with a substantial majority of this cohort finding employment in the South. About 20 percent of these graduates work in New York.**** That may explain why Poet and Quants ranks North Carolina the 47th “Top Feeder School to High-Paying Jobs on Wall Street”, thirty spots below Georgetown.*****
Good luck with your decision!

@collegebound921 if you can, attend the accepted student programs at both schools. Fit – is among the most important of criteria and no one here will have stats on that. And while it is always good to seek advice, take with a grain of salt advice that comes from unknown adults who spend a lot of time online telling high school students where they should attend college.
The two are both good schools, though I’m not sure why Todd87 has made it their mission to convince you to go to UNC. The fact that they have consistently quoted MBA rankings for a prospective undergrad, however, leads me to believe that they have little idea about how recruiting works.
In any case, Georgetown is anecdotally much better for Investment Banking recruiting in the Northeast, if that’s what you’re looking for. (Check out this thread from Wall Street Oasis, essentially College Confidential for Wall Street aspirants, with someone in your exact situation: http://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/georgetown-vs-unc-chapel-hill-for-undergrad-businesseconomics)
Georgetown was also recently ranked number four in the country by Forbes for graduates who make the most money: http://www.businessinsider.com/colleges-whose-graduates-earn-the-most-2015-9

Finance and consulting are top fields for Georgetown grads.
