Georgetown Summer Program for High School Students

Hey guys, I live in VA, I'm a sophomore, and I'm really into business, finance, etc. I was looking at the Fundamentals of Business Program at Georgetown and it looks pretty good! Has been in it before? How hard is it to get into? Is it worth the money? Sorry for asking so many questions, but I really want to get a feel for it before I blow a couple grand on it. Thanks everyone!

I wouldn’t suggest programs such as those by colleges like Harvard SSP and the like. They’re mainly money churning machines.

True, but my parents are willing to pay for something if it helps me get into the college that I want to get into, you know? What other business programs could you suggest for a rising junior?

Have you looked at LEAD? I think they have a business program.

Also, I don’t think Georgetown’s Summer Program will actually help you get into Georgetown.

Schools really don’t want to see that you just filled out an application and your check can clear. They’d much rather see you working or volunteering at a bank or something. If you know anybody who works in your local banks, just ask if you can maybe volunteer and do clerical work and the like, just learn the industry. That sort of experience can easily make for a great college admissions essay, and it shows individuality because most students wouldn’t want to do something to that effect. Now, if you just want to have some fun, DC’s great over the summer, and I have little doubt that you’d have a good time, but it really won’t give you too much of an edge over anybody, especially at Georgetown where such an emphasis is placed on the practicality of an education.

Definitely go for it if your parents are willing to pay…
I went to georgetown last summer- I got in to the week-long program easily…great hands on experience and you make a bunch of good friends

if you are willing to go to Georgetown then summer programs gives you a leg up for the school
but also try to volunteer or find a job when you’re not in the program as aforementioned

Okay, first off I am a sophomore so I can’t do LEAD business. That was my original plan but it only takes juniors. Also, I am going to do free intern-type work at this consulting firm that my dad is the CFO of. I’m not just going to add some expensive program to my application, but rather a supplement to my intended career in finance. Georgetown isn’t exactly my number 1 school, the top of my list consists of NYU, UVA, and UPenn (just because lol). I would love to go to Georgetown but really only if I get rejected from the majority of those schools. Thanks for the responses! Anyone else?
