I've heard you guys talk about GU, GWU, AU and UMD, but just out of curiosity; did anyone apply to GMU? If so, any replies?

did anyone apply to Boston College because I'm a current student and I can answer questions.

SmileDarling-
Im a current student at UIUC and I HATE it!! so be happy you didn't get in! I just wanted to tell you that! if i were you i would much rather go to GW or Gu or JHU.

hey tdolson, I applied to BC as a transfer...I've heard G-town and BC are pretty similar with the type of student, y are you trying to transfer out?

I got in!

I called admissions today and told them I needed to know before June 1st b/c thats when my deposit is due at Cornell. They gave me a woman to e-mail and explain my situation and then I got an e-mail back a few hours later saying nothing was official until I got it in the mail, but I should be receiving good news in the next week....ahh I am still waiting on Columbia and Penn but anyone have any first thoughts between Cornell ILR and Georgetown?

jtrowing, Can you post your stats? What school did you get into?

jtrowing: really?..which school did you apply?...the college?...and what about about Cornell?..(because I am also waiting for Cornell's decision)..can you tell me your stats?

I applied to the College at gtown and ILR at Cornell...

H.S. GPA: 3.5/4-- no weights and no rankings
9 AP's with all scores a 3 or better, a few fours and a 5
College GPA: 3.75/4 at a top 30 Liberal Arts School
SAT: 1360/1600 1980/2400
Varsity Rower, Big Brother, and Young Democrat in College
Lots of EC's in High school including a few service trips and political involvement
Also was wait listed as Georgetown as a senior last yr.
Good Rec's and some other small things that may have helped..

Good luck everyone, and if anyone has any thoughts on choosing btwn cornell and georgetown, i'd love to hear them....

jtrowing..are you a junior transfer or a sophomore transfer?

i called and was given a stern "june 1st"

I just got off the phone with GU. According to the woman I spoke with, "it doesn't look likely that Georgetown will be able to offer you admission." So...I took it in stride and asked her if she knew why or what major factors affected their decision and she said that it's because GU generally tries to admit students who have the grades in high school that would have gotten them in if they applied back then and that I don't have any econ classes.

I'm a little upset about these reasons though because I'm not applying as a high school student, I'm applying as a transfer with a good GPA AND econ classes are not a prerequisite for applying. Yes, if I was admitted I would have had to take 2 years of econ but that is completely fine.

I'm pretty sad now.... wondering if that is really the "final" decision or if they'll continue to review my packet. Will they just not look at it ever again because it's a "not likely?" Did I hurt myself by asking to know early? I wish I had just waited until June. I wish GW didn't require a deposit so early.

How can I fix this? Ah, I'm still in denial.

SmileDarling... sorry to hear that. If that really is the case and they weigh H.S. grades that heavily, then I am effed. It's their school and they can admit whoever they want, but they should recognize that people change and improve. 2-6 Years are seperating me from H.S., and that is a world of a difference. I thought I'd finally escape my poor academic past and people would look what I've done now, so it's dissapointing to hear that...

Hi Professor -

I know what you mean. I graduated high school in 2000 and they're still going to say that it's because of high school that I didn't get in? Didn't the last seven years mean anything? I applied as a transfer - not a hs student. If you only accept people that you would have accepted out of hs then what is the point - I never would have applied.

This is really dissapointing...Why not factor middle school grades into account then because my middle school grade period was closer to my high school period than my high school is now to my college. If that makes sense at all....I'm a little upset still...

sorry to hear that Smile. Were u applying to MSB and thats why they wanted Econ?

I'm sorry to hear that smiledarling. Those are both poor reasons for not admitting someone, however, i think you were an exceptional case. You have done amazing things in the military and with extracurriculars, but that may not have made up for your less than stellar GPA. I thought you had a good shot, but hopefully because you were an exceptional case those reasons wont apply to the rest of us. Good luck wherever you end up.

tdolson88 - No, I applied to SFS.

md6488a - I hope that no one ever has to be rejected just because of those reasons. That kind of thing should only be a last reconsideration if someone is borderline - not as a major factors. I think I would be a little more comfortable if they had simply said that my 3.7 GPA wasn't high enough. I can accept that.

Oh well.... I wish everyone the best of luck! The woman said that it's very competetive this year (like every year practically) and that only 15% of transfers will be admitted. I think the numbers were like 260 people applied and there are only 40 slots available. I'm not sure if she was referring only to SFS or not but there you go.

I can't wait to frame my rejection letter. But in the back of my mind I hope that she was wrong. I would be curious to know who gets into GU's SFS and what their hs records and econ classes were like.

I'm sorry Smile. I guess we both got the early reject together. I called up an admissions officer to see what my reasons for being rejected were but they couldn't find the person who was in charge of transfer admissions. In the back of my mind, I still am hoping that my letter in the mail says something different, but it is "very unlikely," as they said. :(

applied MSB... I wish they send it early

I'm sorry, Smile.

Smile, I'm sorry to hear about your experience with GU :( However, during my recent visit, I found out that students in SFS must have already taken 4 econ classes before entering their junior year.
