nd is some weight taken off standardized test scoring in general when you apply as a transfer? Esp with a fairly high gpa ? (3.933) Thanks for your input.

I cannot answer that. I retook the SATs and did really well, and I also think that my scores affected my decision.

Chances pretty please?

That's a toughie. You have a shot, but it's definitely not a sure-admit. Good luck:)

I recommend explaining in an addendum the nature of the quarter system and/or how many credits is considered a full load.

I had a question... I recently made a trip up to DC and visited Georgetown, but the only problem was it was a Sunday and the Office of Admissions was closed! I wanted to pop my head in and see if they would acknowledge that I visited.. I heard that helps alot. Anyway I took a picture with one of the statues outside in the courtyard and thought maybe I would send that in with a quick note that I visited and that I'm enthusiastic about the school, but it would be pretty short (not letter length.) In your opinion, is this a good idea? I don't see why it couldn't help

No, it's annoying.

Treat the admissions office like you would a boy- or girlfriend: would you randomly decide to send a letter to him or her with a picture of you with him or her, saying "hey, I was just thinking about you," along with an additional love-note? No.

Also, the less desperate you sound, the better.

I visited senior year in high school and again on a day when the admissions office was closed. I suppose that it is still recorded that I visited in high school?

I just don't know if it would make that much of a difference or how much it would help your case. I disagree with godel - I think that there is a difference between interest and desperation. It is not desperate to let a school know you are interested. The only problem is that if you visited Georgetown on a Sunday and didn't bother to make an appointment on a day they were open they might not think that you are THAT interested.

Tough call, but I would refrain from doing it. They have so much mail to sift through as it is and it's not a sure positive point for you (could be negative) so the risk isn't worth it.

BTW, yes - I would send a little thinking of you with a picture to my boyfriend. That's why there is an entire section of "Thinking of You" cards in the Hallmark store and might be a reason that I have a boyfriend. It's a sweet gesture - just maybe not for a college. Anyway, that's off-topic. Good luck with whatever you decide!

I'm applying to the college after only one semester of college work; I'm currently in my spring semester.

My high school gpa was 3.7, and I got a 1390 (760v 690mt) and a 2100 w/ a 710 writing. I was also class president, captain of the mock trial team.

In my first semester I got a 3.6 gpa, this semester I'm on track to get all As, I'm an award winner on the Model UN team, and I was just picked to be an Orientation Leader and on top of that I'm balancing two jobs.

My recommendation will be nice, but it won't be amazing as all my classes were HUGE first semester.

I'm currently at a huge top 100 university in Boston, Ma.
My reasons for applying is that the school is so heavily geared towards the technical majors and a co-op program that the political science/ all the liberal arts are basically ignored.

I'm applying to the College as a transfer. This is my first year at UW-Madison. I got a 4.0 my first semester, but this semester, my midterm grades were a 3.75 (I had to get them for Cornell). I have a completed midterm grade sheet for Georgetown to submit if I decide to. Will a 3.75 help me, or will it hurt me since it is below my first semester? Also, is there any way to show additional interest in the school besides submitting mid-semester grades? I'm planning on visiting over Spring Break for my own knowledge - what can I do while there that will help me?

I too am using my spring break to travel across the country (oregon to DC is far and expensive), any reccomendations for what I should do while there. I have visited the campus before just never officially, a friend who knew the school showed me around over the summer, but this time it will be official.

IMO, there isn't much you can do on a visit except take an official tour and info. session. Georgetown does not offer interview on campus; only through the alumni network.

One other thing you can do in addition to the information session and tour is have an meeting with one of their GAAP (Georgetown Admissions Ambassador Program) students. I don't know if they keep track of who they talk to and it counts as "interest" but it will give you a better picture of Georgetown. Check it out - I did. Here is the website:
