Georgetown Transfer Questions

cbradshaw,

i think you have a great chance. your cc gpa is looking really good. keep us all posted!

kinda off-topic but:-

1.) has anyone seen Berkeley’s transfer admission statistics?! almost 50% of the people that apply for transfer to the business program are ineligible–admittance rate=30% ! lmao

2.) so, do you guys think american public universities, especially Michigan and Berkeley, are unfair in their discrimination against international students (even ones from Canada)??

flowerhead - Thanks for the insight, helpful as always.

hookedongtown - I think the idea is to bring back state residents with excellent credentials that might have been “lost” to private universities or other state institutions. A lot of kids, like us, are dissatisfied with their choice in school, and if their home state has a really good state school(s) like Michigan, California, Virginia, etc, they might be more likely to transfer there. So I wouldn’t say international students are “discriminated against,” but state residents are certainly prioritized. I do know someone who transferred from UBC to Berkeley, but they did have American citizenship…

Also - to clear up any confusion about interview deadlines, according to last year’s transfer thread, people were still having interviews in April.

here’s yet another kid asking about his chances! (to SFS)

transferring from the Air Force Academy

GPA: 3.84
Credits: 116 (semester hours)
Extracurriculars: captain of speech and debate team, national debate awards, various military leadership positions, studied abroad in china, conducted research in Urumqi, China on its use of state military against ethnic minorities, model united nations, taught english to kids in china

I have so many credit hours cause i basically got forced to resign as a senior. its a long story. are my stats competitive enough? o_o? i’m not very high over the average 3.7 :[

I recently submitted part two of my transfer application and have two questions:

1.How will I be notified that they received my application?
2.How long before an Interviewer is assigned?

Also, this is a bit of a chance thing sort of not; everything for my application is great for Georgetown standards except my test scores are SAT1150 ACT 28 and SAT2s in the 500s which i took all last semester, how much will they hurt? I wrote my essay on how I gradually gained more interest in International Business and Georgetown is the right step and about being the first to “come out of the closet” in a small town, how it raised my confidence a little leadership info and such. Good topic? I was split but I decided to use it for my final essay.

Freshman with 45 credits coming in by the way, taking 21 credits this semester (included in 45.)

LOL. i highly doubt homosexual applicants would be in a better position for admission than straight applicants.

I’ll be really quick here: Depending on how the issue is presented, being LGBT can actually provide a boost. In fact, in some circles (though not necessarily admissions circles), it can provide a huge boost.

chairmanMEOW
I think you have a great shot at the SFS, if you put in an effective application.

@flowerhead
would you care to read my essay and tell me if I approached the topic in the right way?

Sorry. I have a policy against going beyond providing advice on this forum. I simply have far too much work to read essays.

Flowerhead: Would you care to tell me if Georgetown will look upon traveling experience and internships to outweigh mediocre SAT score as a Spring sophomore or Junior level transfer?

Hey Everyone,

This is going to be (one of my) last post(s) here. My work from school is piling up and I’ll be starting my job soon, which will provide me with an entirely new level of responsibility. On top of that, I’m striving to minimize my online presence. I’m all about old-school professionalism:)

It was truly a pleasure counseling you all in this thread. I wish you all the best of luck in the admissions process. If you get in, congratulations. If you don’t, it’s no big deal. I know this seems like the world to you all–getting into a top university–but it really doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. Many of my classmates at my top law school went to schools ranked far lower. There was once a day where I thought myself superior to them because of my credentials, but I really don’t believe in that. They’re all brilliant people who made it here in their own way, and will continue to do brilliant things in their lives. And I now strongly believe that what makes you in life is you, not necessarily the college you attend. Believe me, in six years, you will look upon this process and laugh that you wasted precious sleep time worrying over your decision. But yes, even now, there are more pressing things to worry about.

So I will be here over the next couple of days, tying up loose ends and giving any last-minute advice. Hoya Saxa!

Flowerhead

thank you so much for all of the advice youve given me on Georgetown I’m sure its improved my application quality incredibly!

Thank you Flowerhead for all your help! I hope I can counsel future G’town transfer applicants much like you have :)

hey guys,

did any of you (transfer applicants) receive an e-mail about alumni interview?
i heard that is optional for transfer students.
should I go ahead and call that person to schedule one or just ignore it?
