Georgetown Transfer Thread

@significantlevel & trakke: That definitely appears to be the trend! :)

Rinata,

Congratulations!!

MSB right? Were you waitlisted last year?

Could you share your stats/hooks?

@trakke no I think were just going to be screwed this year and passed over for everyone who reapplied from last year’s wait-list

not only do I have to compete with people who have better qualifications than me, but also, all these “priority” applicants who were on the wait-list last year and told to re-apply

I was told by an alum (who may or may not be right) that Gtown tends to admit its more competitive applicants first, then pass through everyone else. I suppose competitive could mean either students they’re afraid of losing to another school or those who have proven passionate about Gtown (wait-listers).

I’m not a huge fan of that, either way. I suppose it would have been fine before the Internet, but now that applicants can communicate with one another the staggered decisions seem sort of crummy.

@ettohtiw
i agree with u. Wait-listers definitely are more competitive applicants only if they keep very good gpa in college. But it’s really hard to distinguish some “must-admit” students who will attend other universities if Gtown doesn’t accept them. Sometimes, the admissions decisions are very random…

They truly are. Sometimes it seems like they just pick from a hat, even though we know otherwise. Strange how the college decisions were flooding out last year and SFS/MSB have kind of dominated for far this year- more so anyways.

I mean I was WLed last year and have a 3.9 at a top 20 university. Gahhh

@futurepresident
so do u got accepted?

“do you got accepted?”

No I haven’t heard back yet

…lol. I think we all have different first languages guys, it’s okay -_-

@Novastudent

Yes MSB. I have not previously applied to Georgetown.

I would rather not share very specific stats on a public thread, but if you’d like to know you can PM me.

Good night guys, good luck in the morning - hope we hear something

Morning everyone (on the east coast at least)! hopefully today we hear back form Georgetown!

On an unrelated note, I emailed the general transfer GU email yesterday and they got back to me saying that all my materials were in and they were still reviewing my file. I was wait listed last year for freshman admissions too, if that gives anyone any consolation

Those of you who haven’t heard, how do you feel that Georgetown has deemed us not as competitive as others? I’m not trying to start anything on this thread, but I’m pretty offended that Georgetown seems to suggest that we don’t need to hear back as soon as others. It seems to fly in the face of the idea of holistic admissions - that every candidate is considered carefully and all aspects of their application get sufficient review.

I don’t know if this is some sort of cognitive dissonance but I’m having second thoughts about going to a school that seems so strongly to make it clear to some people that they’re not as important. The least Georgetown can do is release decisions at the same time (like other many competitive schools do).

(All that said, I’d still scream with joy like a giddy school girl if I get in :slight_smile: )

@centawave
… 5:37 am… Why??? Haha so early!

And yeah that does make me feel much better

@Borges I applied to SFS as a CULP major with a 4.0 and solid ECs and have yet to hear back. I think that making it clear in your application that Georgetown is the perfect fit, in addition to having strong stats and engaging essays, might be it. The alum explained the rationale to me; it was something along the lines of hearing earlier making the admit more likely to accept. Again, it could be total bunk.

Judging by last year’s thread, some people for SFS heard back by email, one by post, so the whole thing is rather confusing. Just to keep my peace of mind, I’ve decided to consider Georgetown a rejection and focus on other schools. Optimistic? No. But process’s lack of transparency is maddening, and I’d rather not think about it. I’d also schoolgirl scream if I got in, because I think that Georgetown is an excellent fit for me. I just wonder if Georgetown agrees.

@ettohtiw well said.

So, how many of you are already up and refreshing the inbox for the day? =D

Random thought that crossed my mind…it might break up the monotony of waiting: If I were an admissions officer I would ■■■■■ this thread so hard.
