GEORGETOWN UNDERGRADUATE (FRESHMAN) INTERVIEWS??

So this morning I got an email from GU Admissions with the contact info of a local alumnus, asking me to contact him and set up an interview. The mail said that this is a critical part of my application reviewing process… now I have a few questions regarding this:

  1. Did everyone that applied get a mail for this interview?
  2. Does anyone know why GU schedules these interviews? Is it because they shortlisted certain candidates for the next level of screening? Or because they're trying to eliminate the ones they weren't sure about? Or are they assigned completely randomly? I'm trying to figure out whether its in a good way or a bad way :P
  3. To any GU students that are now sophomores, juniors, etc etc.. What was your experience and what should I expect from this interview? (formal/ informal? general conversation or..??)

Any info anyone has would be great… even regarding your profile as an applicant (SATs, GPAs, extracurriculars, etc)

THANK YOU

RonnieD: All First Year applicants are required to have an interview unless precluded by geographical area. Here’s a link to that page on the Georgetown Website: https://uadmissions.georgetown.edu/first-year/alumni-interview

Don’t know what the interview consists of, but since it is Alumni who do the interviews, it may be different from person to person.

I used to be an HR person, and while that is different than college interviews, some of the mechanics are the same. Look up potential college interview questions. Practice them in your head. That way in an interview situation when you are nervous and can’t think, you’ve already got the answer ready. Your answers should be fairly detailed. You should be ready to talk about your interests at school and outside school, your classes, your job if you have one. You should know something about Georgetown University and what draws you to attend there. Make sure you have a confident handshake. If you can, sit back in your chair. It has a calming effect on an interviewee (you) - sitting forward feeds nervousness.

Write a thank you note or email after the interview.

Good luck!!

Thank you so much! I’ve never even seen that page for some reason :stuck_out_tongue:

I really appreciate the tips
