Georgetown University Class of 2022 EA Applicants Thread

Deferred from SFS. 34 ACT with a 35 superscore, took the SAT once and got a 1320 so I never took it again lol. Subject tests: 650 physics, 740 US history, 750 French, 750 lit. Unweighted GPA out of 100 was about 96.3, rank 22/230 (ish?) but top 10%. Not a legacy or anything. AP scholar with distinction and I’m taking 5 APs this year. Pretty good ECs w leadership that reflected politics, social justice, and language. Not much volunteer work tho, and I thought my essays were good but maybe not? I do have a pretty interesting/international background that I talked about in my personal essay. Oh well I was sort of predicting a deferral but am hopeful for RD!! Congrats to all accepted applicants!!

Also just wanted to mention that I got my decision over the phone and check my PO box to find there was still no letter!! I have a question to all deferred folk, do you know if we will have to resubmit our application/have a chance to make some changes with our essays or anything?

@Rubix1 oh I found mine now, THANKS!!!

@SW1807 it says on my deferral letter that “no further application is necessary for Regular Decision consideration.” You won’t be able to change anything in your application or essay, BUT you can update the university with new info.

Called in and was deferred, surprisingly not sad at all and kind of expected, lol

Would it be too upfront to ask my admissions officer why exactly I was deferred and what the weaknesses were in my application???

Is there a groupme/group chat for accepted 2022 students? I’ve been accepted and I want to get in touch with others.

is it okay to call the undergrad admissions office and ask what the weaknesses in your application were so you can try to improve them for RD?

Got deferred… trying to convince myself that I hate Georgetown anyways, just to soften the wait for the next decision! :-<

@somewhere2022 Can you make a groupme chat please?

@somewhere2022 @rvwlxejvhn on the acceptance letter there is a link to the accepted students website, where you can click to join the Facebook group!! I requested to join yesterday but they haven’t confirmed yet

@ecort1218 I’m sorry to hear you got deferred, but I hope you enjoy your birthday. Aloha from Hawaii!

Still no letter today in South Florida, so we just called…and my daughter was deferred. She is handling it well, but she is still pretty bummed out. She has several options at in state public universities with full rides, and a half-ride at an out of state public university, but she really wanted Georgetown. Congrats to all who were accepted, and all the best to those who were deferred. We have to keep the faith that you will all end up where you are supposed to be.

I got into McDonough and I only took 3 Subject Tests. 800 on Math II, 690 on Lit, and 760 on Math I. Thanks by the way.

Got accepted into NHS from Rhode Island  Go Hoyas!

@canigetahoyaa @iwanttogetintocollege The letter to accepted applicants basically explained that they thought the result would be the same for those students regardless of the early or the regular applicant pool which is why they got accepted early. If you were deferred, it does not mean you are unqualified, unworthy or that you won’t get in regular decision. It just means you were not in the top 12%. Since you were competing with mostly the cream of the crop, you can’t feel bad about that (have you never gotten a B or a C?!). There are simply more applicants than available spots.

They will turn away at least as many equally qualified when all is said and done because, well, math. I don’t know that they will be willing to answer your question about where your application was weak, because if yours was weak, you would have been rejected. Somewhere I read that it is harder to get in to GU early than it is regular. Either way, don’t beat yourself up. Just continue to do your best and to keep them updated, and make sure to be open minded to the many other options out there. Best of luck to you~

Accepted into SFS! 1530 SAT (740 Reading, 790 Math), 33 ACT, 770 US History SAT II, 760 Math II, 670 Spanish

GU still doesn’t reject any early applicants right? People, including my counselors, keep saying things that make it seem like they do now? I’m 99% sure that they don’t

Nope, they only accept or defer. @justliviglife

Deferred from NHS. 4.0 unweighted, 34 ACT, 1500 SAT, rank 1/148, 13 AP classes (including this year’s courses), varsity sports, volunteering, extracurriculars & leadership etc too. Disappointed, especially after all the anticipation of the last few days :frowning: Hope I can get in RD, but doubting it. Congrats to everyone who was accepted
