Georgetown University Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

And for anyone else who may be having trouble with it, the Facebook group’s name is “Georgetown transfers 2016”

I just called for expedited decision too. I have to let another school know this week. I’m applying to SFS and they never even asked for my name, on the phone they just said Kelly Young is the person that I need to contact to get the request in. I also emailed gu@admiss email if that helps

and i haven’t heard a peep back. don’t think GU is accepting me at this point, but would rather get a rejection now than waiting 3 more weeks only to have the same result :confused:

Those who have called/emailed have you learned anything about your application status? I want to call because I have to hold down a spot at my safety but I am worried that since there’s flood of similar calls I may annoy someone and hurt my chances. If anyone has learned anything valuable from calling (I applied to SFS if that matters) please let me know.

Anyone accepted today?

i heard everyone got rejected actually

@RunFromMANBEAR and where do you hear this from?

it’s a joke

@olivergr Okay. I figured that but I wanted to know for sure.
@RunFromMANBEAR if @olivergr is right, that’s really not funny. I’m stressed about this and it means a lot to me. I don’t think I’m the only one. I may be overreacting but that’s that was just stupid.

@LGfromDC i completely understand your pain, I gave in and contacted McDonough today for an expedited decision i frankly had an awful experience at AU this year and its going to be okay, just gotta…stay positive even though its really …really hard

sourced it primarily from the pure, unadulterated speculation that goes on here and elsewhere on CC forums.

@hershey789 I hope it you get in! I hope we both do. And yeah, it’s hard to keep positive but we’ve got to! We do risk a great amount of disappointment if we don’t get it but hoping is what got us here in the first place right?
@RunFromMANBEAR but that’s what it is: speculation. None of us have ever been part of the admissions committee or fully understand how it works. We have ideas but that’s it. Don’t act as if that’s fact.

@hershey789 what did McDonough say to you?

@LGfromDC you are absolutely right! thank you for the kind words, I really do hope we get this. I cannot do AU/Kogod for another semester.

@Ezio35 they didn’t give me much info, I have to email the guadmissions email saying why i need the expedited thing. the lady said its not guaranteed but they will try their best. who knows… what if they haven’t even reviewed our app yet

This waiting is too much…

I think people need to take in consideration that transfer admission usually start their process late for usually an average of 2,000 applicants. They probably go through a group of applicants at a time and for each of those group they send an email to those they see fit a certain standard. That doesn’t mean that those who didn’t get an email are rejected automatically. It’s until the amount of vacant spots available for transfer students is filled that they stop with acceptance and rejection/waitlisted start. That is what I believe the June 1st deadline is. I would be more worried if you haven’t gotten an email by the fourth week. Not after just one week of emails. I’m just as stressed since SFS is brilliant and I would love to go. Unless you ask for an expedited decision, you aren’t going to hear on your own terms. Let’s not use the word rejection lightly so early in the game. From looking at the posts, you all seem to have great credentials so I’m not surprised why it’s taking them time to decide. :wink:

I was just emailed my acceptance letter 3 hours ago. It landed in the “promotions” tab of Gmail, so I’d check there in case you’re still missing it.

Good luck to everyone else! I really hope you all hear good news :slight_smile: If not, don’t worry. I promise there are great things in store for you.

@patricks275 congratulations!

@hershey789 Thank you!

@patricks275 congratulations! Did you ask for am expedited decision? And what school did you apply to? And for comparison purposes, could you give a few stats?

@LGfromDC Thank you! Didn’t ask for an expedited decision (actually I didn’t even know that was a thing to be honest). Applied for Theater & Performance Studies, but am going to try and double major and expressed that interest in my essays.

Quick Stats:
GPA: 3.8 (from a top 25 USNews School), took 4-5 classes per quarter instead of the usual 3
High School GPA: 3.67 (Had a good reason for why this was so low; overcame obstacles)
ACT: 33
SAT II: 750 Literature
APs: Two 5s, Three 4s (Took 9 APs overall)
IBs: 6 HL (Took 9 IBs overall)
Awards: National Merit Commendation, IB Diploma, AP Scholar, College Honors, some misc stuff

-Ton of extracurriculars; nothing special but sustained commitment across all, relevant to my major, unique angle to a few of them (promote racial and gender diversity/equality)
-some research
-I work 20 hrs/week in addition to everything and my interviewer mentioned being impressed by that

Interview: Went well. He was super nice and a philosophy major (and I’m really into ethics). We talked for over an hour. I managed to spill my ice tea all over him (whoops!) and he was really sweet about it.

Hooks: Full paying. Asian and female, so that didn’t do much. (My username is an eight grade attempt to find a username that wasn’t taken, but I’m not a guy.)
