Georgetown v. George Washington University

Georgetown v. George Washington University

is one better?

definitely Georgetown

It depends what you want. Georgetown is definitely stronger academically (and I’m not even usually about rankings and stuff!). However, Georgetown is NOTORIOUSLY rich/preppy, it’s basically a Catholic school, and it’s kind of secluded - it’s not very close to a metro stop (or anything, really, although I think it was close to the Potomac) and although it has a great campus, it’s considerably less a “part” of DC than GW or even American, for that matter.

I know someone who teaches at both universities and does not see any significant difference in academics. It’s the non-academic qualities that are different as briefly described above.

Georgetown is at least as integrated with DC as American, if not more. ^

It’s just the epicenter of the secluded upper-upper class circuit of DC, which isn’t a bad thing.

Georgetown academics are overall better than George Washington, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Georgetown has a lot of rich students, however there are many middle class and lower as well (I was definitely not in the rich category). Georgetown is not downtown like George Washington, however it does have its own area with tons of restaurants, bars, clubs, stores, etc., and is pretty popular for weekend nightlife, for students and non-students alike. Georgetown does not have a metro stop, GWU does, however the campus is surrounded by various bus stops, and there is a free shuttle bus that runs to Dupont Circle and Rosslyn metro stops, as well as the Georgetown Law campus. Georgetown is very much considered part of the city, seeing how it’s a Historical Area, there are embassies, and MANY people come for the shopping and social life. Georgetown is about 50% Catholic, and besides the crucifixes in classrooms and like 2-3 statues around campus, you can go through 4 years without seeing or doing anything Catholic, if that’s what you want.

So, please do not listen to applicannot.

Georgetown.

Georgetown, without a doubt.
