Georgetown vs. Brown vs. Dartmouth

Hello everyone. I was just wondering if anyone would care to compare/contrast Georgetown vs. either of these universities (Brown and Dartmouth). Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much! :)

georgetown is in D.C. brown is in ****hole, U.S.A., and dartmouth is in the middle of nowhere. georgetown is best known for politics, brown has a more liberal arts focus (and no core) and dartmouth is probably of the three the most presigious, if you only care about brand name. internationally speaking, however, gtown sfs is famous all over the world while i don't know how many people in europe, for example, would have heard of dartmouth (they'll know HYPS, some of the big public universities and a few select programs like Johns Hopkins medicine and, as i said, georgetown sfs). that's my take on it...and i'm always right. also georgetown college is far easier to get into than brown and dartmouth and the sfs is about the same.

they're all good, I applied to all of em

Please. Are you crazy? There is no way that people would know of georgetown over Brown or Dartmouth! People in europe wouldn't have the slightest clue as to what SFS is.

Um.. you're crazy, because they do. The Prince of Spain went to Georgetown SFS, so obviously Europe knows of it.

ok...so you've proven that European royalty knows about Georgetown...maybe he just went there 'cuz he was rejected from Princeton...

Mmhmm... you're ludicrous. I insist that you never post in the Georgetown forum again, partially because of your horrendous spelling.

Hey! I just realized that I applied to all 3, too! Cool...

i'm from Europe and i can tell you that when i moved to the us i had not heard of dartmouth or brown but had heard of georgetown as being incredibly strong in politics/foreign service etc. now a senior in the u.s., and still in contact with my old friends from england, many of them are considering coming to the u.s. for university - none considering dartmouth or brown but several (wanting to study politics) applying to georgetown sfs. in europe if they want to major in more traditional things, ie. english, history etc., there is no reason for going to the u.s. as the colleges there are perfectly sufficient (try oxford or cambridge); however, for more unusual, at least traditionally, majors, that's where knowledge of the u.s. system comes in and, as such, georgetown is better known.

Oh, cool. That's what I had assumed.

I think it's hilarious when Ivy Leaguers get all defensive when compared to Georgetown in particular. Maybe they feel threatened by us!

Personally, if I really wanted to, I could have gotten myself in to an Ivy League. I didn't even bother applying because I knew Georgetown was the best place to be!

My mom, who works a good deal in France, Austria, and Belgium, said everyone in Europe knew exactly the school she was talking about and had high praise.

Who really cares if Brown and Dartmouth are ranked higher or have some stupid title? The only difference I've seen between the caliber of the students is that A LOT of the students from Ivy Leagues have some hard core superiority complexes.

I think Georgetown is just as good and probably better than some of the Ivys.

Yeah, I would rank it with the second-tier ivies, academics wise. Probably about equal to brown and dartmouth, a little under columbia. But basically, if you can do well at georgetown, you would succeed at any of the ivies.

amy-- that's exactly where I put it in my mind.

Yeah, I agree. I'm still applying to 3 Ivys, but it's really just because I already paid the application fee. Plus, you never know! We'll see what happens....but for now, I'm a Hoya.

TimR you are a troll. Don't start pitting the different schools at G-town against each other, we don't need or want that here.

"georgetown college is far easier to get into than brown and dartmouth and the sfs is about the same."

Numbers talk, and your bull**** walks. The numbers say that COL has an even lower accept rate than SFS. Where do you come up with this stuff? What a load of nebulous crap that you just post because you "heard it somewhere."

Hopefully, they're are all great, since I applied to all three.

sorry brenner, i take it you got into the college and dont want anything taken away from your accomplishment. the fact is, however, that the sfs has the reputiation, which may be all it is...just a rep, of being more competitive and elite, and that counts for something...i'm not saying the college is a bad school...

This is how I see it: HYP, Columbia, Dartmouth, Brown, Georgetown, Penn, Cornell

And all of Georgetown is amazingly difficult to get into, so it's no use comparing them. You just have to give it your best shot.

word (i have to type this because just "word" was too short)
