I'm a student who's currently attending Carnegie Mellon University.
I applied to some universities for transfer and I got accepted into Georgetown Univeristy.
Both are very good and competitive schools, but to me Georgetown seems a little better since I'm planning to go to a law school and Georgetown is definitely better in terms of humanities and social science. (I'm currently in Tepper, and I got into Georgetown as Econ-Poli-sci and I'm planning to minor in business as well if I enroll in gtown) But my parents seem to feel that these two schools do not differ that much in terms of fame and my future; furthermore, I'm expecting a lot of paper writing and discussions in Gtown, which Carnegie Mellon seems to lack. I feel this is necessary for me but I also feel a little worried being that I'm an international student and my English skills inevitably is behind other native students.

The living conditions, I expect to be much better at gtown. The weather, the location, everything seems to be better than Pittsburgh although I have never been to DC.

What do you think? Do you think going to gtown will be worth the adventure and the risk I have to make?

Personally I love Georgetown and I looking back it’s definitely one of the schools I wish I had applied to. The Georgetown, D.C. area is beautiful and academically you will be challenged. Carnagie is amazing but if you are looking at law Georgetown is the way to go. If you do well at Gtown you can write your ticket to the best law schools in the country.

if your goal is law school then I would go with georgetown as well…but just to forewarn you-- you can’t minor in the mcdonough school of business. you can take finance, accounting, and marketing classes for non-business school students but there is no minor offering (you can’t major across schools either)

What’s wrong with Pittsburgh? I like Pittsburgh, but yeah DC is really nice.

I think your writing skills are better than a lot of native English speakers. I would not let that deter you.
