So, I was accepted to Georgetown (college), Uchicago and William and Mary and I am having some trouble making a decision. I thought at first that it was a pretty clear cut decision -- Georgetown seemed like the perfect balance of academics and a social life (and in DC!). However, my friends and family have all been telling me to go to different places, and I am starting to think that I haven't looked into all of my options properly.

Georgetown -- Balance of Academics and Social life, great campus, great city

UChicago -- Tremendous (ly difficult?) academics, stifled social atmosphere, but a great city. Worried that I might spend all of my time working though... and its cold

William and Mary -- I don't really know anything about this school. OOS tuition (still way cheaper than Georgetown and Chicago), Public Ivy... Please fill me in!

I do not know what I want to major in, but I'm sure all three schools have great departments in every major.
Help? Thanks

I would most likely choose Georgetown, but any of them would be a great choice! All three have vastly different atmospheres, but I think that Georgetown’s in a slightly nicer part of DC than UChicago (although in my mind, W&M has the most beautiful campus). Regardless, if you feel like Georgetown’s the place you should be, I’d take a chance and go there!

Pardon my bluntness, but you don’t seem to have put all that much thought or research into your decision (“I’m sure all three schools have great departments in every major”, “really don’t know anything” about William and Mary).

William and Mary’s undergraduate program is very well regarded, and may possibly offer the best undergraduate experience of the three (taking into account quality of life). Georgetown is a fine school, but it does not have “great departments in every major”. UChicago offers a distinctive curriculum and the benefits of a leading research university (including the most distinguished faculty among the three schools, if that matters to you).

There are perfectly valid reasons for choosing any of these schools, but I would encourage you to first learn much more about each of them before deciding.

Great choices to have. Would you rather live in DC or Chicago?

If you want to go to G-town, go! Unless you’re getting a lot of financial pressure from your parents b/c W&M is cheaper. In that case, sit down with Excel and run the numbers. Look at post-grad income. Look at grad school acceptances. Look at employment stats. Make your case that G-town is the better investment (or whatever case you’re trying to make).

I think you’ll find a stronger science program at UChi, better connections to poli sci/ internships in politics if you go to g-town or W&M.

OP, i’m confused as to where you got in; you said you got into georgetown college, but you talk about dc- do you mean georgetown university? if it’s the university (in dc), then i think that’s a good choice, but if it’s the college (in kentucky), then william and mary would be a better program for a better price.

The OP meant they were accepted to Georgetown University
and the college there (A&S) as opposed to the business, school of foreign service, or Nursing and health science schools

I decided to go with Georgetown University because I think that I will enjoy my time there the most. I want to either be either pre-med or go into econ/political science. I feel that going to Chicago would have hurt my GPA had I decided to go pre-med, and Williamsburg is not enough of a city for me. So I’m going to be a Hoya!

All great schools; congrats on getting into them! The only thing I’ll put out there is that if safety is at all a concern, UChicago may not be the best option, as it’s located right next to the south side of the city, and when I visited, this one woman advised that crime there has increased lately (not just talking robbery or assault, but full-on murder). But what’s your major? I’d take that into consideration when deciding between the schools.
