Georgia Tech recommends the writing portion of the ACT when submitting scores.
My ACT writing score is a 9/12, which is the 91st percentile
My ACT composite is a 35, with two 34s, a 35, and a 36 as subsection scores.
Is my ACT writing score in-range of Tech? I can’t seem to find information anywhere else on the internet regarding this.
Georgia Tech doesn’t care too much about the writing score. They are a tech school. I think they just want to see that you are above average, which is a 7. You should be fine.
Your score of 9 is perfectly fine and you should not fret over it or retake.
@ConcernedRabbit I doubt that Tech “doesn’t care too much” about writing. In fact, admissions specifically mentions that they are looking for essays that are “excellent on topic, style, and grammar.” Writing and communication is an important skill in most fields, including technical fields. Just because schools like Tech are technically focused does not mean the humanities and soft skills do not matter. I’ve seen many students assume this and then fail to take advantage of the opportunities they had in college to improve their writing and critical reading skills along with their ability to create structured arguments and synthesize ideas, which all prove valuable in the professional world. That said, the SAT writing section isn’t likely a great measure of writing ability. Strong writers often get average scores if they don’t conform to the “formula” the essays are graded on and average writers can obtain near perfect scores by following the guidance available in SAT prep books. Low scores would raise questions about an applicants abilities in basic grammar/usage and in constructing a logical argument, but the gap between a score of 8 and a 12 probably doesn’t mean too much.
Score of 9 is fine. Out of stater here (15%acceptance rate for us). Got in with 8 in writing ACT score of 34. I really wanted to go to GT, and I believe that came across in my application essay. Strange thing is I won second place in our states writing competition, and got an 8 on ACT, go figure. Good luck!!! -and great scores!!
