I got deferred from GT's EA and I can't figure out why...
My college counselor told me that it would pretty much be a safety for me and statistically no one from my school got rejected/deferred with my grades

I have a 4.0 GPA and 2160 SAT
800 on Math Level 2
I participated in two programs Sponsored by Google
Won an award for aspiration in computing
I volunteered and taught SAT and SHSAT math
I checked my chances with other sites and they all said I had a high chance of getting in...

What courses did you take? Did your school offer APs? If so, did you take them? Did you take the hardest courses possible.

Did your counselor check off most rigorous course load?

I would be surprised with your stats too of being deferred. If you can answer yes to all of those questions, I would try to get in contact with GTech and say that you’re still interested.

Ask your college counselor to call Georgia Tech and ask. Assuming that your school sends students there, and that your counselor has a good relationship with admissions you may very well get a concrete answer. Perhaps as well you may get advise as to what you can do between now and regular decision to strengthen your application

I took 4 APs : Calc AB, Computer Science, Japanese, Government
I also took the hardest courses offered for my interest field : Computer Science
I took more than required number of courses every year

But college admissions is a crapshoot these days. Was your essay
-a rehash of your transcript?
-something very controversial/non-conventional?
-something not easily believable?

You took 4 AP courses, but do the top students at your school typically take more?
You said “took the hardest courses for my interest field” - does than mean you did not take honors courses in subjects you weren’t interested in?
Is your 4.0 GPA weighted or unweighted?

Kids usually take may be around 6
My school only offers honors course in math and I took a couple
My essay was about my personal experience
No one from my school who had above 90 average was rejected EVER

“This years early admission student profile includes a 4.0 average GPA, 1460/2155 SAT score, with a predicted GPA of 3.3 after freshman year at Tech. Some 55 percent of applicants were accepted, 21 percent deferred and 21 percent denied; the rest did not complete their application files”

They have the above on the website. So while your 2160 is slightly above the average it’s not much above it. What was your math/reading score? What were your AP scores and did you send them in? Have you already taken 4 AP classes and are now taking more or is it 4 total? What is your senior schedule like? Is it the most rigorous that it could be? I suppose it could come down to the essay , Did you make it clear that you really wanted to go to tech? Also can you take another SAT subject test?

My son and 3 other kids from our neighborhood got in however when you look at our school some kids got in and there were others at our school that got deferred that everyone assumed would get in. I think this time around there were just a lot of really good applicants.

I think if you have a rigorous senior schedule and have maintained the 4.0 this semester you will get in RD.

Not the OP, but I guess it was Google Science Fair. In this case, I understand why it did not play such a major role in his application, everyone could participate in it
