Georgia Tech Deferred...Still Considered for Scholarships in Regular Admission?

My son was deferred to regular decision at Georgia Tech, his first choice school. We applied EA not only because it was his first choice but also because it was required to be considered for scholarships. Does anyone know if he can still be considered for scholarships since he has been bumped to regular decision? There was a specific donor scholarship we were hoping he qualified for that was specific to our town but I’m not sure he would even be considered now. I was also hoping for an OOS tuition waiver. I know it’s a long shot but if anyone has any insight, I would appreciate it. I’ll post his stats below.

ACT 33 (superscore)
SAT 1450 (superscore)
17 DE classes
Honors list 2 semesters and President’s list 1 semester at local college (DE)
4.0 college GPA
4.0 unweighted GPA
4.55 weighted GPA
National Merit Commended

3 AP classes taken sophomore year but only made 3s so don’t qualify for Tech.

Completed all science up through University Physics I and currently taking University Physics 2. Completed all math up through Cal 3 and currently taking Differential Equations.

Numerous service hours including several overseas mission trips. A few years of athletics. Part-time job. Very involved in church youth group and church activities.

Once deferred, one would be considered RD applicant. The chance is slim.

Not likely high enough for merit, especially since superscored. Merit is often based on single sitting scores. That said, merit at GT seems to be given to very high stats unless the student has some other hook.

His scores are not in the upper quartile.

If you need merit in order to afford the school, then I’d encourage him to find another favorite school.

You mentioned a scholarship for students from your town. Do many from your town apply to GT? How much is the award?

That won’t be (anywhere near ) high enough for merit and IMO deferral means you should consider it as a rejection (it is unaffordable) at this point IMO. Is an OOS waiver even a thing?

Not many kids from here apply to Tech. The scholarship is even more specific to kids who go to our local college first (the one my son is dual enrolled in). I’ve only known of 2 kids going to Tech and they were in the IB program-not enrolled at the college. We live in a small town in FL. He has other options with scholarships but GT has been his #1 since he was little. I blame his dad who is from ATL for brainwashing him. lol I’m trying to get him to focus on his other options. Applied to Auburn, FSU, UF and UCF. Received scholarships to Auburn and UCF. Awaiting decisions from FSU and UF.
