Does anyone have any suggestions for "good" dorms? (more specific than East Campus vs. West Campus, and more specific than simply a "freshman experience" dorm).

I applied for the honors program, so if I receive an invitation I will end up at Howell. However, if I'm not invited, I could use some advice on "good dorms", e.g. newer dorms. I heard dorms overall are unsatisfactory, but that's secondary for me.

^^^
To go along with the OP's post, which west dorms? I think my d will be more interested in west than east. She's not a party kind of girl, likes hanging with a few friends over movies, or whatever ... but east side doesn't appeal to her as much as she's hearing that's the more "gregarious" side of campus, and she likes to be able to go out and have fun, but come back to the quiet and recharge. Not sure if that makes sense. So what are the quirks of west dorms ... things we can't know from reading the housing website.

I got in, and I like to party. So if I wanted more of a party/social feel, would east be best for me? also which residence hall is the best/most wild?

At some schools, you move into a dorm and stay there for 4 years. As a result, each dorm has a “personality”. In fact, to keep that personality intact, freshman have to interview to move into dorms. Tech isn’t like that. Freshman dorms turn over every year, so the most exciting dorm this year might be the least exciting dorm next year. The same thing can be said of “East vs. West” campus. Some years, East is considered the party side, and sometimes it’s West.

But, keep in mind that this is Georgia Tech - so the words “party” and “exciting” are relative. In fact, a “party dorm” is really just a dorm where people talk to each other and don’t stare at the floor when passing in the hall. If you actually want to party, go to the fraternity houses (east campus).

It’s really a crapshoot where you move in, and there’s no “best” dorm.

picking a dorm isn’t a big deal, they will prob give you one on the bottom of your list anyways. they aren’t all that different. east is just as quiet and boring as west except that it is closer walking distance to classes and fraternities

east campus freshman experience dorms suck. they are old and rooms are very small. no closet space to speak of. the location is the only thing going for them, except it is very noisy especially on weekends. also, cafeteria on east campus is not good at all. my son refuses to live in a dorm again because of this experience. we are hoping for campus apts. next year. the people he met are all great. he has made good friends from all over the world.

I live in Glenn Residence Hall and let’s just say… it sucks. BUT, I have made many of my good friends here so I can’t complain too much. Yes it sucks living in all-male but being in such a big dorm you meet a lot of people which is nice. I have been in many dorms, my favorite all-male East Campus dorm is definitely Howell since it’s been renovated most recently. On West Campus, a lot of the dorms are nice but Caldwell is probably my favorite.

Luckily I’m going to North Ave next year! Man freshman dorms suck in comparison to those apartments haha
