how soon should i pay the acceptance and housing deposit? any other helpful information?

as soon as possible, if you don't wanna get stuck on west campus

I'm curious. What's wrong with West Campus? I thought it was quieter?

Nothing is wrong with west campus. My freshman son lives there and loves it. As with most things, it is a matter of personal preference.

Some say it is closer from east side to classes - most classes are really in the middle, so the difference isn't huge. If you have classes at Boggs or IC, those are closer to west side. The east side is closer to Tech Square where they teach Computing for Engineers and management classes. However, the Tech Trolley runs from west side to Tech Square so it really isn't a problem.

Most students say the food at the west side cafeteria (Woodruff) is better than the food at the east side cafeteria (Brittain). The west side dorms tend to be a little newer and perhaps nicer. Most of the apartments built for the Olympics on are on the west, but you won't get into those as a freshman.

The east side houses more freshman and is closer to the frat houses and sororities, so the social life is said to be more active. West side is quieter but closer to the Rec Center. The football stadium and basketball arena are also on the east side. My son sees that as another reason not to live on the east side - too much tailgating, traffic, and noise on football Saturdays. Others would love it for the same reason.

You just need to consider what is important to you and go with it. There is no one right or wrong answer!

2sonmama,

Thanks for the very detailed explanation!

I think I'll stick with my preference for West.

2sonmama is right, I like the tailgaiting and social life...its all on what you prefer.
