Hey everyone, I am thinking about applying to Georgia Tech because of their outstanding and challenging BME program. I just visited the campus in Atlanta and I absolutely love it. The campus is beautiful and modern. However, the people there looked 1. almost all guys 2. almost all asian guys (nothing against them, just an observation) 3. almost no girls. So just wondering, most of these guys looked like the nerdy type, and just by visiting, it made me believe the tech stereotype of introverted nerds. So my question to those more experienced than I, is how is the social atmosphere? Are there any fun parties? and (not to be a douche) are there any actually attractive girls?
OK, I a parent, but a few thoughts:
Georgia Tech undergrad recent entering classes are 40% girls. They may not all be in BME, but quite a few are.
The frat life at GT is notoriously party oriented. 25% of boys join fraternities.
Football culture is alive and well, did you visit during football season? Students buy season tickets at a discount
and the tail gate parties are good, apparently.
I saw pretty girls on campus during FASAT, for what that is worth!
Georgia Tech’s graduate programs are somewhat more male dominated, as all engineering colleges still are today.
I hope an undergraduate student answers your question as well.
The summer demographic is not representative of the school during the year. There’s no shortage of nerds but there are plenty of good-looking kids, male and female, of varying ethnicities. Try to visit during the regular school season if you’re still worried.
