Georgia Tech Social Scene

Hello!

I’m interested in Georgia Tech and I have a few questions about social life at Tech…

  1. I understand that the workload is quite rigorous for engineering students. However, is it the same for Scheller Business School students? Does this leave time for partying and going to clubs/bars with friends?

  2. As a D-1 school, the football games seem like tons of fun and make for a great college experience. However, is it true that with the exception of athletic events, Tech students are “antisocial” and spend their weekends with their heads in books? Or is that just myth?

  3. Does the weak girl to guy ratio detract from the dating scene at Tech?

Any other details about social life at Tech would be great and thanks in advance for your responses!

  1. Yes, business school students have time to party - but that’s true for many engineering students, too. We don’t tend to have parties during the week, but Thursday night is common for mixers and Friday is the main day for frat parties.

  2. There are quite a few parties almost every weekend. We also have events like Relay for Life which occur on weekends. Some people are always studying, but plenty of us are involved in Greek life and other organizations, from honor societies to robotics teams to club sports to mock trial.

  3. I’m a girl, so I’m not the best to answer this question - there are single guys all over the place. I’ve heard guys say that half the guys never leave their rooms and that evens out the ratio. I’m not sure whether it’s just guys trying to feel better about the ratio, though!

I love Georgia Tech. We have amazing opportunities here, and a lot of people are heavily involved in one or two extracurriculars. We also have several prominent school spirit groups (Reck Club, Fast, Wreck Camp) and really good study abroad programs - which work for most majors.

There are many introverts at Georgia Tech. If you are an extrovert and want to meet women, there is plenty of opportunity. Get involved in school activities, join social organizations and you will meet women and men.
Georgia Tech has a great Baseball program too and what a great way to spend a lazy spring afternoon. Atlanta nightlife is killer.

Having a social life at Georgia Tech is all about budgeting your time and getting involved. By most accounts Scheller is less demanding than the College of Engineering, so if you’re a business major you’ll probably have more free time than engineering counterparts, all else being equal.

As for introverts, yes, Georgia Tech has a lot of them. That being said, if you’re a social individual you’ll have no trouble finding others like you who are interested in getting involved.
