Georgia Tech vs. UT Austin (for Computer Science)

I'm out of state for both schools so the instate tuition argument isn't really valid.

I visited both and I love both for different reasons. I've been accepted into Computer Science for both. I love UT's campus and I love Austin, but I do really feel like Georgia is more intimate and the degree is somewhat more valuable to employers. I love the study abroad program Georgia has that is really integrated with their curriculum, but I also love the Freshmen Research Initiative at UT.

I actually have no idea which school to pick, it's kind of a win win situation and my pros/cons list is just growing ridiculous. I'd really enjoy some outside perspectives! Thanks!

I’m from Texas, and I have a few friends going to UT At UT, you’re just a number. There are so many people, it’s hard to comprehend. That means competition for research, internships, scholarships, jobs etc is cuthroat. Your relationships with your peers and teachers will also be different. Also, the atmosphere at UT is completely different. UT is known as a party school, whereas GT is a polar opposite. This may seem like a bad thing, but the whole school is in a communal struggle for their grades, so there’s (i’m guessing) a bigger sense of community.

btw, I recognize you from the GT facebook page lol

Haha! I don’t recognize you seeing as your username is May2013SAT but that’s cool. Yeah i’m still having this internal struggle. That sense of community really appealed to me for GT but idk I liked UT overall better? I’m not a big partier in the sense of getting hammered every night but with 38k undergraduates they can’t all be partiers haha. I JUST DON’T KNOW :(

I just got my acceptance from UT today, and GT yesterday. Both for Computer Engineering. I am OOS as well. I really don’t know how I am going to choose. I really like Georgia Tech, but UT Austin is great as well. I don’t know what to do…

Tech is better school academically/professionally, though the difference is fairly marginal. If you plan on doing engineering I would go to Tech. Realistically, you aren’t going to be able to get involved with a lot of activities at UT, especially greek life, if you want to do engineering there. Also, while all of UT’s undergrads aren’t partiers a large majority are, and you shouldn’t go to the school expecting otherwise. I had a similar choice, chose Tech, and never regretted it.
