GER Flexibility

This question is mostly for W&M Admission, but if anyone else has an answer, feel free to help me out:

I was planning on taking Chemistry this summer at Richard Bland College of W&M, just to kind of get it out of the way since science is not one of my favorite subjects at all and I have no intention of being a science major. The issue is that the Chemistry classes (CHEM 101 and 101L) which transfer to fulfill GER2A are only offered while I'm still in school (I'm a high school senior and have been admitted ED) but I would be able to take CHEM 102 and 102L. These classes, however, transfer to W&M as CHEM 308 and 354, which are not classes that fulfill GER2A. What are the chances that an exception would be made and Richard Bland's CHEM 102 classes would be accepted to fulfill my GER2A requirement, since they are actually more advanced chemistry classes? I have taken AP Chemistry, but only got a 3 on the exam, so I just missed getting credit from that.

I wouldn’t count on it. The registrar’s office can be very irrational and stubborn. If you contact them directly and work it out ahead of time, it might be possible.

We hav carefully worked with Richard Bland and the VCCS campuses to determine what classes fulfill GERs and which don’t so unfortunately you will not get credit for GER 2A if you take CHM 102 at Richard Bland. Have you looked to see if CHM 111 is offered at John Tyler or J. Sargent Reynolds this summer? They’re in the same area as Richard Bland and have transferrable chem courses.

Also keep in mind you don’t have to take chem to fulfill GER 2A. Physics and geology classes are also options and there are classes there designed for non-majors.
