This is mostly directed at current students or parents of students, but if anyone has an answer, THANKS!

I know that there are 7 basic areas of GenEd study, but some, like the Natural Science GER and the History/World Cultures GER, have subparts (Physical, Biological, Lab and A,B,C). To fulfill the GER for a specific area, do you have to take a course in each subpart or do you pick one?

It would be in each subgroup. So you would have to take both, say, biology and geology to fulfill the science GER. Freshman year (especially if you’re unsure of your major), its great to take a wide array of course offerings and finish your GERs while exploring the various disciplines.

For science, you have to take a physical science and a biological science. But you only have to take the accompanying lab for one of them.

For history, you have to take three, but instead of taking a 4C you can take another 4A or 4B.

If a course is described like this: “Attributes: GE4A Hist/Cultr Euro Tradition, GE5 Lit/Hist of the Arts”, does this mean that this one course fulfills both GE4A and GE5 or just fulfills one of them.

Courses can fulfill multiple GERs as well as requirements in a particular major. If a course is listed in the course catalog as fulfilling multiple GERs than it does in in fact fulfill the GERs listed
