Then go to https://webacct.acpub.duke.edu/online/activate/ and call the number for the help desk at the bottom of the page (919-684-2200). Their hrs. vary. Tell them you want the temporary password to set up your perm. password (or that you need to reset your password) and they'll ask you some questions to verify it's you. They'll give you a temp. pass (I think it took a half hour for it to be ready). Then you click that link at the bottom of the page and enter your net ID (non-alias email) and the temp. password and come up with your own better password. And, ta da, you are in. I think we get 90 somthing megabytes. You can thus access Blackboard. Since I'm not on Duke campus, I just set my Duke email to forward to my current gmail account for now ..(then you can get your facebook or whatever). "

There's two different ways to email yourself. :) If your name is George Hamilton Washington, your email is george.h.washington@duke.edu or ghw@duke.edu. If someone has your initials, you are assigned a number. Using the previous example, you might be ghw22@duke.edu. I personally use my initials (which is also your netID) because it's shorter.

The email alias has to have a period in it. Email address has no such requirement, so i just removed the period for my email address. My first and last name combined is only 7 letters and it definitely looks better than the initials I think.

I paid deposit long ago (I'm ED) but when i try to go on that website to find my alaias it says DUKE ID DATABASE SEARCH ERROR
Sorry, could not find.

When I got mine, I just told them my netid (see where Med 1488 quoted me above) and asked to reset my password, which is something anyone can request. They didn't even ask if I was an incoming frosh I don't think...but I can understand if a coupla thousand people call not knowing square one what to do and they have it all printed up to send you in May, they figure why not make you wait and give it to everyone at once when they're set up to handle so many questions. There's only about 50 of so '10ers on facebook right now (a lot more is happening on the MySpace group, so if you want a great place to chat, try there!)
