I know they say the department states that they won't typically admit people with a GPA below 3.0, but this conflicts with what I hear from people on this forum.

The way it's looking, I'm probably going to end up with a 2.8~2.9 in the prerequisite courses. My overall GPA is ~3.5, but I guess this doesn't help. :(

Do I still have a chance at the Econ major? Or should I start signing up for alternative courses?

What courses have you taken?

If you haven’t taken both 100A and 100B, take those to try boosting your GPA. And yes, there is a supplemental essay where you can display your passion. And you can still have a chance :)

But honestly, if you aren’t too good at econ, I would suggest something like PE or EEPs instead. It might be better for your GPA and future job opportunities :)

***, i thought it was overall gpa being a 3.0 ++ to have a guarantee in.

I’m in the same boat as you, Ivy.

They look only at pre-req GPA.

Sorry to hear that, GoBears…

And StarryNights, I took 100A this semester. Yeah, I’ve been looking at PE, but I think I slightly prefer Econ at the moment. Thanks for the cheerful words :)

Just got my last grade back. Prereq GPA is 2.94. Anyone make it into Econ with that?

I would just take Econ 100B next semester… and then see if you can get a B+ or better in it… and then apply :)

I talked to an Econ advisor earlier in the semester (well, peer advisor). I asked if I was to take both 100A and 100B, which grade they would consider in the pre-req GPA? She insisted that the grades shouldn’t differ that much, but if they do, they would take the higher grade. I hope that means they wouldn’t consider the lower grade. Yeah, Econ 100A was tough.

Awesome, I might have a chance then.

Did you take 100A with Acland?
