Get MacBook now or in August?

I will be attending Arizona State University for Fall 09' and will be majoring in management at the W.P. Carey Business School (which recommends either Macs or Dells). Should I buy the new 13" MacBook now or in August? Do you think they'll have a better deal on it in August as compared to now?

The one advantage of me buying it now is that I plan on putting down $600-$800 and then pay the rest in monthly payments. I'd much rather pay those payments before I go away to college.

I'm wondering the exact same thing. I really want one know so that's probably what I will do.

Apple generally isn't very big on offering discounts, so it's fairly unlikely that you'll see any (beside education discount) in the summer. However, you can get a free Ipod if you buy then and it's also possible that Snow Leopard will be out by then along with a few technical upgrades (e.g. a better hard drive).

Save the money you would be paying in payments and simply use it to buy the whole thing in August, if you decide to go that route.

you've been through high school without a laptop, why do you need one now all of a sudden...

wait til august. put the money into a CD or something. save some more so you don't have to pay monthly payments at all. there will probably be a new model, and old models will be refurbished or on clearance. the computers then will come with Snow Leopard, if it's released by then, so you won't be paying extra. there is simply no good reason to buy one now.

I'm getting a Macbook for Christmas hopefully......

I would like to get used to it until I go to college and use it to do my Senior Project in the spring.

I'd wait until the summer simply because the new macbooks are so new. As with all new products, there will be kinks and design flaws that will need to be worked out. If you wait, hopefully the major ones will be fixed by the time you buy one.

i concur with SBR. with hardware/software packages like the macbooks its best to wait for a while for minor errors to be straightened out.

Wait until February at the earliest.

There are back to school deals!

Buy Macbook = get iPod free! D: I would wait til August.

That's not that much of a deal for many people...many people already have iPods, unless you are into collecting them...

Yea I already have an iPod. However I could sell it.....

BCEagle91 - Why February?

wait, problems will be out, and free ipods for college discount.

There are known nVidia problems with the new MacBooks that Apple said should be fixed in January. Personally I'd wait for February.

Here's an interesting article on some of the problems reported for the new MB and MBPs. Idk how widespread they are or how serious, but it's fair to say that the MB needs a bit to mature.

august

you dont need it now
just save up your money
technology will improve from now till next august
price may decrease a little (not sure, i dont use apple products)

IMO, the price of a macbook = a pretty kick@55 dell

The price will not decrease. Apple doesn't lower their prices. Though it is possible you may get a little more fo the same price, but it will still be the same price.

Yea i suspected that
Apple is a money grubber

I suggest using windows then (unless your pockets are nice and deep) cuz they give you more bang for ur buck)
