Macbook...upgrade

I'll be starting college in mid August as a business major. I would like to get a macbook now so I can start enjoying it and getting used to it before school. However, I've heard that an upgrade is possible before I head off to school. When should I buy? Thanks.

hold your horses for the time being.
Even I am planning on buying a macbook for college, it does not hurt if u wait for the rumored update. Yes, I do know that having one now is nice, but if there is an update in August, boy, would you hate yourself!
Also, I am not too sure when the back to school promotion is (I am an intl so I am not too sure, but obviously around August), but I heard they give a free nano and a $100 printer voucher!
Finally, if there are going to be any new macbooks released, you will get to know in June ( Apple's WWDC), so you will have plenty of time to play around with the macbook, be it the new or the same version.

I believe last year the back to school promotion lasted from june - september or july - september. New ipod nanos were only available for the last couple of weeks for the promotion. So yes, you should wait until the summer because of 1) a possible update, 2) a free ipod nano, and 3) a free printer.

If nothing new comes up, you should def buy a macbook by the beg of Aug. You might need time to adjust to a mac if you have been using windows your entire life. It wouldn't be the best idea to be figuring out anything about your mb while you're in college.

Anyone else want to answer? I'm buying a mac in august too, so I'm in the same boat as you...I'm hoping for a redesign of the mb to silver or w/e like the mbp or air.

From what I've read an update is expected pretty soon (end of the summer at the latest).

The iPod promotion is great, it helps Apple drive out old iPod stock while selling macs. Notice how new iPods are often introduced sometime between the beginning of September and the end of November (just in time for the holidays). However, it still is a great deal to get a free iPod, and there is often a deal for a free printer too.

I think the free printer promotion (which is going on now) is ending soon, so it's either buy now and get a free printer, or buy later and get a possibly upgraded macbook + free ipod.
