Getting a D in honor geometry

So, I’m a sophomore in high school. I was in a honor geometry class and i ended up with a B (first semester) and a D (second semester). So I have some few questions, I hope someone will help me:

  1. If I do good in algebra 2 or precalculus will the D grade go away or will it be balanced ?
  2. How is it gonna effect my chances of getting into UCLA or UCI, oh by the way I’m not gonna directly transfer to UC, I will be in CC due to some family problems? (I’m thinking of being a Pharmacist or ENT doctor.)
  3. should I retake the course in summer school next year?
Thank you for your help and times

The D isn’t going anywhere.

It sounds to me as though you have a C average, unless there’s some weighing of, say, a final, that we’re unaware of.

I guess my question is why you did so poorly. A LOT of Geometry is pure memorization-- once you get beyond the proofs-- why did your grade drop so drastically?

Be careful not to let the same thing happen next year. Algebra 2 builds and builds and builds and builds, particularly once you hit trig. If you get lost, and are still lost 2 days later, it’s imperative that you get extra help ASAP.

If you’re going to start at CC, the grade shouldn’t be an issue.

  1. Your D will remain on your transcript unless you repeat the class and then the new grade will replace the old.
You can validate your D, by getting a grade of C or better in a higher Math class, but your D will still be calculated into your UC GPA unless you repeat the class.

There are two types of validation:
Validation of Coursework: “Subject Omission” – validation of a lower–level course even if the lower-level course was not actually completed.
Validation of Grades: “Grade Deficiency” – validation of D or F grades in a lower-level course after completion of a higher-level course with a grade of C or better.
The second semester of a course validates the first semester of that course or lower-level a course, even if the first semester course was at the Honors, AP/IB or College-level.
As a reminder, the original deficient grade (D and F) is still calculated in the GPA for UC freshman admissions. Note: To remove a grade deficient from the calculation, a repeat of the exact same course is required

  1. If you plan to go to a CC for 2 years and transfer as a Junior (UC’s only take Junior level transfers), your HS grades will not be needed unless you plan to use AP credit for some of the transferable classes.

  2. If it was me, I would retake the course so the D is replaced.
