So it's likely I'll go to Cal, and I was just wondering:

I have a friend whom I want to room with. Assuming we both list each other as roommate requests, fill out our housing apps almost identically, what is the chance we'll get a double together? Likely? Unlikely?

If it matters, I probably want to live in Unit 3. If not, then Unit 1, followed by 2, followed by Clark Kerr, then Bowles.

Please, to current students who've been thru this process, I need your help! Thx!

You’ll get your roommate for sure but they might place both of you in a triple. It’s probably like a 70:30 double:triple ratio. You should email them and say you really want a double and want to pay more if they do place you in a triple. That worked for me.

I don’t have firsthand experience, but my friends who did that didn’t seem to have any concerns about whether or not they would get to room together. Just make sure that you guys have the same room preferences listed; you presumably would rather live in unit 1 with your friend than unit 3 without.

thanks for your help…

and btw, is there any incentive in submitting my housing app soon as i can before the deadline, is it on a rolling basis? or are ALL the housing apps sorted out after the deadline?

it’s not on a rolling basis, but submitting early will probably be better anyway
