Getting a job after Tulane?

Hi everyone!
I was accepted to Tulane two months ago EA. I’m really considering it (loved it at the visit) and I love everyone else I’ve talked to in the class of 2021 so far, but the thing keeping me from committing is my concern about getting a job after college. I want to work in a large city after graduation- meaning NYC, Boston, Philadelphia, LA, SF, Miami, etc. My concern about Tulane is that it’s a smaller school and a large sum of people have never heard of it and therefore may not hire me because of this.
I’m worried that even with a high GPA, if I go to Tulane it may be difficult for me to find a job in a city outside of the South after graduation. I would love to spend my college years in NOLA, but cannot see myself living in the South afterwards.
Could an alumnus or current student comment on this?
Thank you so much!

The people who have never heard of Tulane are not the people who will be hiring nor are they adcoms at grad and professional schools.

@lushella, what is your anticipated major? My son is a current Tulane senior who is majoring in finance. He has a great job lined up in NYC at a top investment bank post graduation. Over the past year or so, he did a lot of networking with Tulane grads in the industry who were very helpful. His internship last summer was directly through his affiliation with Tulane.
If you love Tulane and this is your top choice then go for it!

My son graduated Physics last year May 2016 and right after graduation he was hired as Aerospace Engineer in Los Angeles Area, Cali (by the beach). Tulane degree(s) is very very worth it. Also, my physician/doctor (HMO) is a graduate of Tulane Medical School. Tulane is old school and has been around for a long time. If you want to know about where the Tulane Alumni reside then contact the Alumni Office, so that you can do networking after graduation to find an entry level job in big cities like you mentioned previously.

The only downside would be that employers from companies in the northeast part of the country may not recruit directly at Tulane. You might have to do a little more leg work yourself and with the help of career services.

Thank you all so much! If I don’t get into USC, I think I’m set on Tulane. @jozuko My intended major is definitely something business related- finance, marketing or economics. Thank you again for sharing your son’s experience, so helpful.

Some of the most successful people I know – including a prominent attorney and doctor – went to Tulane undergrad.
