Goldman Sachs Retention Rate:

That’s a little startling considering people work so hard just to get hired. Is the low rate due to a LOT of washouts, hired by other firms (HF/PE/etc), and people going back to school?

I think banks take your drive and work ethic more into account. You need to be at least somewhat smart to do banking, but you don’t have to be a genius. You do however need to be able to sacrifice your life for 2 or 3 years to do the job.

For pure IBD, yeah sure, it doesn’t take a genius, but they like to have smart and hardworking people. They require what they do for a reason, it helps them to weed out people. It’s not perfect, but its not baseless either.

S Yoshi, I know you stand a good chance at GS and other BB’s given your stats as a rising junior. My D got an internship at GS as a rising junior with similar stats.

GS DID ask for her SAT scores and hs GPA–DID NOT ask for hs transcript. But still, my D was a bit surprised and didn’t remember her hs stats preciously. Hence her call to me. I also did not remember preciously.

People should also be aware that you have to take a drug test and have your fingerprints taken at approved labs w/in a specific period of time if you are offered an internship or job.

In addition to being perfect, you should also have a good personality and be a partier. Fitting in with your desk is most important.

Winning the Nobel Peace Prize might help but it will not trump a 4.0 at a target.

Haha^ I just read that I wrote preciously instead of precisely.
