What would be an advantage of getting a masters in econ or finance when looking for IB or consulting jobs? If my undergrad gpa is low but my grad gpa is high, will getting a masters help a lot? other than that, how do firms look at grads compared to undergrads?

If you can get a graduate degree in econ at a top school. Go for it. It wouldn't hurt.

it wouldnt hurt? that's it? would it help? i know that the top ib and M&A firms look for 3.5+ gpa. i heard its even higher at some firms. if i havent received those grades in undergrad but do so in grad school, would it help a lot? or just minimally? and please assume other factos are the same.

elcamino,
Whether it would help depends on specific positions and situations. Say you got a PhD in economics from Harvard (most graduate programs in economics are PhDs). That degree would help you get offers from consulting firms and universities since consulting firms look for credentials and universities look for promising researchers. However, that degree wouldn't help you much at a i-bank that's looking for a fresh creative mind.
