I have visited some friends at JMU before and its a really nice campus but it seems like its a pain getting around campus, class to class. I know alot of people that go their but I've only talked to one about getting to their classes and they said it kinda sucks cause you will probably end up having to take the bus and its just annoying. So I was just curious how tough it is getting to each class and just where ever you want to go on campus. Right now I got WVU and we have something called the PRT (Personal Rapid Transit) which is very convenient thats how I get around.

I don’t have any problems getting to class but I also don’t mind walking places. For me, the buses work if I ever need then but as I said, I walk everywhere.

From my kid’s experience, I really recommend getting a bike. for some reason they have train tracks running through the campus – it really only affects one classroom / area but it can be annoying. Bus service is free though and runs every hour – much better than our hometown!

But is the bus reliable? And I’m a business major and I heard if you’re a business major then all your classes are all pretty close together.

The buses are reliable. This year there are even more buses than there were in the past because they have made the campus closed to most cars during the day. When you register for classes there is a link you can click “can I get there on time” to give a sense of the distance between class buildings. Most of your major courses will likely be in the same building or in buildings within close proximity. You generally can schedule any general education classes around those to make sure you will have time to get to where you need to be.

I teach at JMU, so I do not have as much need to travel between buildings quickly, but the students don’t seem to complain too much. I went to Syracuse for undergrad and Penn State for grad school, so comparatively JMU seems much more manageable. And at least it doesn’t snow here as much :)

^ ^ ^

yeah but I love the snow so I’m actually looking forward to it. What about getting to the rec center? Like I said, here at WVU we have the PRT which is like a cable car system that takes you all over campus. Walking to the rec would take me almost an hour, but with the PRT it takes about 5-7 minutes. I guess theres always buses going to the rec center?
